That qsort example is getting tedious. I wonder why restrict keyword is never mentioned when talking about C++'s performance advantages over C - it can offer a huge boost on modern CPU architectures. I know it's supported by all m

Wow, nice. I once managed to write a brainfuck compiler/vm in ~100 lines of C [1], but this is impressive. [1] https://github.com/kgabis/brainfuck-c

No, what I meant is that a compiler written in C is likely to be faster than a compler written in other language, which is a good reason to write a compiler in C.

Compile times are important though and using low level language such as C can make a big difference.

I can't imagine writing 1.5k lines of code using stylus. Besides, why BASIC? Lua seems like a better fit. Codea uses lua and is amazing, but then again - writing code on touchscreens is always painful.

Gold costs ~$38,000/kg [1], lead costs ~$4/kg, and launching 1 kg to LEO costs ~$4,000 [2]. It would be an extremely profitable venture. [1] http://goldprice.org/gold-price-per-kilo.html [2] http://spac

Being a simpler and easier to write/read language is also a feature, and a lot of people find value in such qualities. That's why golang is becoming more and more popular.

I would be so happy if that comittee started removing features instead of adding them. Guidelines like that are just a way of dealing with all the complexity they introduced to C++ over the years.

No, using function pointers does not necessarily mean implementing a vtable.

How hard is it to get a job in the US for an EU citizen? I've heard that one could wait for up to 2 years for a visa, so most small/middle-sized companies just don't bother and hire only US-based developers. Is it any easier

Dukaj is amazing, his "Other Songs" ("Inne Pieśni" in polish) is one of the best books I've ever read. I really hope it gets translated to english so non-polish speakers can read it.

This trend is terrible, not only those webpages are hard to read, but they're also hogging CPU. I had to close a tab with it, because it reduced my remaining time on battery from 50mins to 20 mins...

I once wrote a similar simulation in C: https://github.com/kgabis/gravitysim It uses Barnes-Hut algorithm, so it runs in nlogn, instead of n^2.

Caustics are caused by refraction or reflection, not diffraction. There are many analogies between simulating light and sound, but you take different shortcuts to make those simulations fast. E.g. you don't simulate diffraction when si

It's different mostly due to diffraction which is neglible in case of light and very important when simulating sound.
