Moving from Lightroom to Aperture's not a possibility, given the workflow, experience, and catalog data she's built up in Lightroom over the years. Upgrading from 4 to 8 gigs last week helped a lot. I'd go to 16 except her MBP won't support

Thank god for this article. My wife is a photographer making heavy use of Lightroom on her 17" MBP and has been experiencing these exact problems for a year or two. We've tried everything to fix it, rebuilding the system from scratch, to no

Anyone know about the thermal conductivity of the cured resin? If it's a thermal insulator I wonder if the capacitors might burn out after prolonged use because there's not enough heat dissipation. Oh, and I want one.

I designed the original Gmail UX and I have to admit I'd changed every pref in my accounts exactly as Jason did. Good call.

Actually, it appears to mean that they won't sue startups unless the startups sued _someone_ about a patent in the last 10 years, unless that suit also qualified as a Defensive suit, which means that the suit is against _another_ company th

If I'm really proud of something I've done, I would think it's a cop-out to crow about my DAU or MAU to imply that it's good, especially if I'm Google and have the ability to drive hundreds of millions of inorganic users at it.

This. The site should clearly state whether they're showing 1000ft prevailing winds, jetstream-level currents (around 30,000 feet) or more surface-level effects. All the people talking about power generation from this data should be aware t

I agree. The auto-trimming of the signature is another good example of going to far. Gmail used to elide repeated content, and would grey the signature. Eliding it behind a click changes the emotional tone of the messages that people send t

Actually, I only made light use of Reader's social features. Aside from their absence (which I do think is a shame) the visual changes to the more newsreader aspects of Reader severely impact the product, and are a big part of what I want t

First, a user script is a poor solution because it reaches a small minority of people, is limited in the functionality it can add, and would frequently not survive updates. It's a band-aid, and a poor one at that. Second, what makes you thi

If Nokia is the primary hardware manufacturer of Microsoft's solution then it won't matter. Three years ago HTC had no real brand in the USA but that doesn't stop them from selling a ton of Android phones. Meanwhile Motorola is widely recog

Yes, I noted in my blog post that the story about the patent application came out September. 'Breaking the pogo pin story' wasn't the purpose of the post.

I'd like to reiterate the 'probably' I mention in the OP. I don't know that this jack uses the new pogo pin design, but even if not, the tapered lip and exposed ground pin is something new.

All headphone contacts buckle, and that's not enough to determine whether they're cantilever or pogo pins. The biggest difference I've seen in Apple jacks is that in their cantilever design the pins alternate from one side to another, while

This is the crux of the issue. The warrant wasn't issued to determine the source of a trade secrets leak. It was used to procure evidence for the buying and selling of stolen goods. Trade secrets are a civil matter. The fact that the police
