I am probably never going to do an MBA (probably because life in unpredictable), but, as a business guy with programming skills, I strongly advise the "tech guys" not to close doors on anybody. If they come with a suit and they look like th

I agree, although not 100% on the enterprise software point. I am the first to say you need a business guy for that, at least to correctly figure out the needs, but I don't see why an MBA here would be better than a business guy with experi

Besides the fact that 6.1B is not the value to the US Economy: those engineers and developers would have probably produced value anyway. So, to be specific, we should know the value without YC and with YC and the difference would then be "t

I always found much easier to do all the work in R or Python and then put the results in Excel. Excel is really not a good tool for things that go beyond additions and vlookups.

It doesn't matter the version, if 2003 or 2020, I would never do life-threatening computations in Excel. It's just too painful and dangerous (look at how it treates dates). But unfurtunately I don't do this much, I do mostly finance-account

People could use R or python and do similar mistakes. I am creating a small algorithm to analyze stock prices and I am just realizing how easy is to mess up in these things. Unfortunately, these things are treated like earthquakes in some c

Right, I forgot that part. If you look at spending, it's actually quite a challenge to see any real "austerity" going on. Spending is up and did not go down much in most of the western countries during the last years.

Please, bear in mind that Krugman has a very opinionated view against austerity (he seems to be going the Keynes way these days) and this article is not about Excel. He just wants to show how right he is and how sloppy the austerity guys ar

Humid waste is hugely untreated in many countries. It seems like the way to go because it doesn't burn well and it's 30% of the urban waste. Tech is there. Issues are mostly: 1. Margins. Transporting this stuff with a low volume/value ratio

There is an enormous market inefficiency in that gap. The question is how to exploit it. Finance guy here (hobbist programmer). The more I think about this, the more I realize the way to exploit this is through well designed and _speciali

Nothing against China or it's people but if we keep building it up while it buys all our debt, this will end very very badly. It is really not clear to me how this ends badly for us. If China keeps buying our debt and we fail to pay back,

There are lots of economists, and I believe is the majority, that actually kept advising to let the banks fail. Economics is a deep and complex field of science, I urge you to get a better grasp of it before doing such shallow statements.

It seems people here don't travel much. If you travel a lot for work, the hell you manage to wake up at 5 am and go running. Just saying, not everybody stays in the same place long enough to build those habits.

I work in a big multinational and the transition to IE8 is not finished. It doesn't matter if 99% of a company is on IE8. If 1% can't use it, you are still out. Especially when your solution is new and people will not be so open to it from
