This is true; not having that remote server has its pros and cons. VS Code is also just in general slower than Emacs haha. I'm surprised the difference is that much though!

I do think that keyboard optimized workflows are not for everyone; you should use what works best for you! However, Emacs distributions like Doom Emacs or Spacemacs are definitely more approachable and featured OOTB than vanilla Emacs. For

Yeah, as far as I've tried to use it, I've found it's pretty good on Fedora (basically the flagship GNOME distro) and that's mostly it. It hasn't worked very well at all for me on Ubuntu.

To reduce the heat that the bulbs are putting out, I think? Though, LED bulbs are already very efficient, and the difference in power usage between green light and a perceptibly the same brightness normal warm or sky tone light is probably

Yup. I love my manual E46, but I'll be the first to admit that modern paddle shifters are better for everything other than vibe, basically.

It's definitely not as accurate as a trackpad or a mouse, but it's not to hard to get very close. The benefit of it is that it's right on home row. You don't need to move your hands to use the mouse. On my thinkpad, I us

I don't know... I went to a very competitive public high school in an affluent suburb. In most of my friend groups (self-segregated based on taking honors and APs), most people got at least above a 1450 on the SAT or maybe 32 on the AC

Client side decorations are fine, but removing the option of server side decorations from app developers is stupid IMO. KDE and wlroots have this functionality. Practically, for small apps that don't really have their own style (or gam

Yep, big thing for me is smart pointers and RAII. Everything else is secondary. I have worked on template-heavy codebases that would really benefit from concepts, though.

What's wrong with left aligned & and *? I prefer it because for me it makes more sense; it is not a <type>, it is a <type> reference (or pointer). This involves different semantics than just a <type>, so it make

I love GNOME (and currently still use it), but the project really has been taking a turn for the worse. If you want to do something even slightly off the happy path, GNOME is the worst Wayland experience. Because of ideology (and in the nam

I truly believe that IDEs like this one (including DrJava gag ) ruined introductory programming courses. I don't think using a full fat IDE is good either. Using an IDE from the beginning has resulted in many (maybe even most) of my p

If you just make it easier to have kids, people will have them. It's hard to justify bringing a child into this world when both would-be parents have to work to make ends meet and they can't afford childcare.
