Stories like this always make me appreciate Bitcoin more. Satoshi disappeared without a trace for nearly a decade already and yet the project continues to work, progress and self-govern without a hiccup. That’s the ultimate decentralization

What if people aren’t ventilated early enough? Would that increase mortality?

Because the two alternatives we’re talking about here are ‘foo(bar, baz)’ where foo, bar and baz convey meaning and ‘object.doWork()’ which means nothing and explains nothing. Yes, it’s a spectrum and there’s a lot of space in between those

Good advice. Don't use classes. At least resist using them as much as possible. Consider this simple aspect: one of the key differences between a class method and a separate funcion is implicit (and sometimes explicit, though that'

If you read about this in the media - that’s the answer right there. I haven’t seen much surprise/outrage anywhere else (beyond surprise that OPEC/Russia failed to find common ground).

As I understand author’s point, your example with “sum” is only valid because “sum” word has very few meanings, especially in software engineering world. Even the word “product” would introduce certain ambiguity in context of real world cod

That’s incorrect, Germany is very much like France in terms of number of cases and their duration.

> Germany is not testing nearly enough people Source? I’ve heard exactly the opposite - Germany is testing the whole cluster as soon as infection is found. That explains the low mortality.

Quitting is not the metric that is interesting, quitting and staying unemployed long-term is.

1. Elaborate please 2. If you’re writing a wrapper to existing java lib maybe 3. Tough to be a particular lisp fanatic I guess.. Clojure helped me to get into lisp big time and all other lisps now feel clunky and inelegant.

not interested in debating semantics. data is turned from input streams of bytes into coherent structures in your system. the process of turning data into coherent structures is input sanitization. sanitization or validation or conformati

Bad advice. Input is the boundary of your system. Always protect the boundary of your system orders of magnitude more than it’s internals. That’s like programming basics.

no, by `add` i mean exactly the function `add`, not + operator. he cherry picked the example to show how operators are "better", he's wrong. in practice sum of a sequence is more important concept than it's special case

The difference between function add and operator plus are solely in the resulting parsing tree. Chaining pluses together is the same as adding arguments to add. Proving correctness of operators and stuff is just not something I do when I wr

“Sure” what? I don’t need to prove any of that to use variadic ‘add’ function. Pretending like it’s function of just two args is just a cherry-picked example to make operators look nicer.
