Feels like you're assigning probabilities out of thin air. For example, not sure how hardware failures would wipe out the entire human race, or even cause the collapse of modern civilization across the planet - like every single piece

There were many times, at least during the time of colonial empires where companies would run entire towns, regions, and countries. Sometimes they provided just law and order like in British American colonies, but usually they coerced pre-e

If you're not going to do something awesome why not work hard? Broken down: If you aren't going to do something awesome (like travel a lot) , [then] why not work hard [instead]?

That's really interesting! Do you happen to remember where you read about demobilized soldiers in countries, or about the possible motivation for the crusades?

They do it because video preroll CPM is waayyy higher than display advertising. Like up to $15/cpm.. Multiples of that if you can get the right deals in place (not remnant).

The paywall doesn't have to be all or nothing. Probably a very small minority of their readers are capable of bypassing the paywall using browser dev tools.

Thanks for the information. This opens a little rabbit hole of terms to crawl Wikipedia for. It's very interesting that you thought I raised five questions, when my intention was to actually clarify my single question :)

Can somebody explain how Amazon could buy them if Capital One's total assests are worth $334 billion? Presumably the valuation would be some multiple of that. Amazon doesn't have enough liquid cash, so how would they do it?

I've independently come to the same conclusion as you and OP, but some of my liberal friends on Facebook don't agree. I don't really understand the argument to "isolate and shun" by not joining his advisory boards.
