Unable to sign up. I get an error "unable to communicate with facebook". I'm signed in to facebook in that browser, not using incognito mode or anything.

Nearly every problem with Ubuntu (or any other Linux distribution) can easily be solved by some sufficiently convoluted workaround. The combination of fifty separate fixes to make it behave how I expect it to isn't a solution. In some cases

This differs slightly from volunteering to call up all your friends. This is more akin to authorizing Al Gore's robo callers to use your phone number so your friends pick up the phone when they see caller ID.

I'm not sure if you would consider these "startups" per se, but I've been at two private companies that had an acquisition or equivalent. Large comparison shopping site, I joined about 9 months before a majority stake was sold to a private

They've done that successfully enough that I just dumped my ubuntu netbook in favor of a Mac. Ubuntu has been steadily removing all the advantages Linux has for power users without counterbalancing improvements.

I'll comment on each in turn, since I think the author is so far out in the boondocks of corporate hell that he hasn't even been exposed to some of the things Joel is assuming as standard. 1. Source control. Sounds like they're possibly wor

I'd like to see the ability to delegate the storage to other accounts. That is, I want XYZ app to use my parse account, not XYZs. It sounds a good place to hook in what I'd like to see around owning my own data and having universal access t

Your comment contradicts current linguistics. There is no "correct" separate from usefulness in communication. If someone wants to write a REST RFC, and people can talk about "RFC-6789 Compliant REST API" then correctness would reenter the

That's a valid criticism of APIs that think "it's not SOAP, so it must be REST", but this is close enough to REST that it seems pedantry to claim it isn't. So all apologies to Roy Fielding, but through success, he has lost control of his te

This isn't a customer service story. This is a PR story. If it isn't something they do for all customers in a similar situation, then it's not customer service, it's a stunt.

That's the attitude I'm targeting. Drop in five lines of code and use a different stylesheet for mobile. Easy and no danger of making it worse (since they can switch back). I'm not really going after anything built by a team though. I'm mos

As long as we confuse how we'd like things to be with how they are, we're doomed to waste a lot of money that could be put to better use. Doctors are human, humans are most reliably motivated by self interest, the key to good care at good p

My beef with Wikipedia is the squeaky wheel gets the grease problem: a vocal minority easily drowns out the more rational but less rabid. For example: why does the article on pregnancy need a naked woman on it? The talk page dismisses all a

When the FAQ appears to address something (selling at less than list price) and doesn't call out an exception for free, it's not an assumption. Companies do all sorts of things. I don't understand all the economics of amazon's business mode

From the FAQ: Amazon pays developers 70% of the sale price of the app or 20% of the list price, whichever is greater. I would interpret the sale price of the app to be zero, so they get 20% of list.
