The website felt odd to me. It's clearly aimed at developers, given the subject material, but it felt like it was written as an ad for prospective buyers. It listed a bunch of features and user interface methods that apps should have , bu

How many people on HN aren't capable of easily getting around regional restrictions for websites?

On the other hand - publicity gained by going dark along with reddit would raise the amount of people who were aware of HN and could cause more people to come here. Either way, I don't think it's that big of a concern.

I find it exceedingly hard to believe that Google would be brought down as a repercussion of Google. It's very unlikely that any widespread, powerful websites (like Google or Facebook) would be taken down, because removing them from the ec

You put a touch device which doesn't scroll properly - halting, not properly moving with the finger - in someone's hands, and they'll say it just doesn't feel right. That's a serious UX problem.

That's a naive quote. You are the product, yes, but you're also the customer. Google has to appease you to keep you. Without a balance between consumer and advertiser, Google won't make any money.

The problem with the Android devices that I've used* is that they just feel cheap. When scrolling does not occur smoothly, that's a serious UX issue. *I haven't had the opportunity to use ICS yet.

They write about what they know - they know about the mobile landscape of the United States. They likely don't know about the mobile landscape of the rest of the world and, if they were to comment on it, they would most likely get it wrong

What we're (or at least I) am opposing is government regulation of free speech. Corporations are allowed to regulate speech on sites that they own.

The line is where they, as a company, decide to put it. I would not go to a social networking site that had gore or porn polluting my feeds. Similarly, you might not go to a website that disallows any content. That's our prerogative. It

He strikes me as being completely out of touch with the value of money. He's living as a single man on the median income of a family of four and he's acting like he can't have a single luxury? It's ridiculous.

Yes, the two most common ways of ordering pizza now are via the phone or in person, but there's no reason to expect that this will stay constant. Communication between people has trended away from voice contact for a while now, and if a co

I'll agree that WikiLeaks died (for me) when they released the helicopter video, but not because of some sort of grand conspiracy. It was because they editorialized the story into the ground. They weren't releasing unadulterated pure data

It's pretty odd that they don't tell what the + operator now means, or more likely, what it will mean in the future. If you're going to take away a feature that I use, I'd be a lot more accepting if you explained why .

Not necessarily. Generally, the purpose of a corporation is, in fact, to maximize shareholder wealth, but all a corporation is supposed to do is to represent the interests of the shareholders, which do not have to be financially motivated.
