A Beta test is usually a call for this kind of feedback. You should send it to them. Save the HN comment for after the Beta.

I think the mobile version is the main feature. Accessing many facebook settings from your phone is a challenge.

Radiolab's Numbers episode covered this fascinating topic back in 2009: http://www.radiolab.org/2009/nov/30/

Failing over to the secondary only helps if the problem is local to the primary. If you pushed bad code or the system just can not handle the load, the secondary will just fail in the same way.

It's not as simple as github.com/usgov but some of what you're looking for is certainly there. If the government has rights to the source code then it can fall under FOIA. They have ways of denying those requests but only with the proper do

You raise a good point. There is a difference, however; the Internet is actively monitored and ISPs respond to/work with the police to reduce this kind of content. Can the same be possible on something like Freenet?

Did you happen to read the article? It has nothing to do with developing in ruby.

It's not generally obvious to non-developer end users that they will (sometimes) need to install the -dev package on their OS. Would be nice if it were. I'm mostly taking issue with the unfriendliness of the comment.

Smug reply implies that gems are only for people who develop in ruby.

Contrast this end-user experience with that of Steam's. These are essentially the exact same applications except that Steam has 1) carefully cultivated a huge, multi-platform ecosystem of apps and 2) has never willingly broken the applicati

Why are Google Hangouts a viable alternative for people who care about privacy? (Ostensibly the point of this article.)

And send them a note too, sure. They've got their e-mail addresses as well so a note of apology and warning is certainly in order.

Kind of not law. Most local codes will have a few items that they consider special and worth mentioning, and then it will tell you to refer to the County code (assuming you were at the city level). Then the County code will add some things

Given how long this has been a problem, it would be interesting to look back through access logs to find attempts to use this.

Perhaps I was not clear, but I was saying the same thing as your first sentence. When people are concerned about including GPL in their work code (as the OP is) then they are typically concerned with issues of linking/importing/etc.

Except that the GPL linking exception exists because of the taint that can be introduced by using GPL'd code. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPL_linking_exception

I came here to say the same thing. I had read about two paragraphs in and thought: "Wait, I thought this was supposed to colorize the code...ooooh nice."

I meant it tongue-in-cheek, but what you say is true and the Steam interface has always been a custom one. I haven't used the Mac version - how did they rectify this on the Mac?

Probably one of the initial barriers to porting Steam to the Mac.

Nice work. Google also reimplemented jsmin as jsmin.py here: https://github.com/v8/v8/blob/master/tools/jsmin.py Now we just need an evil-friendly reimplementation of jslint.

I happened to come across that clause last week and tracked down some humorous commentary by jslint's author: Douglas: That's an interesting point. Also about once a year, I get a letter from a lawyer, every year a different lawyer, a

Is this the first time you've circumvented the package management system? If you have done it before, maybe that's the cause of the pain now? Just guessing, since these things usually work without any complaint for me.
