Seconded. I ended up spending several days trying to re-organize my first decent-sized Flask project when I tried to add a different config for testing. On the next project I started with a template that handled the boilerplate bits like ap

It's almost like this is becoming a regular occurrence. I'm looking forward to the next generation looking back on this and being incredulous that we used to completely throw away boosters on every launch.

Our feature toggles have tended to live for months to years. Sometimes the really old ones were our fault for not removing, for example we rewrote our payments UI in mid-2014 and the flag stayed around for more than a year after we were at

A fundamental difference between medicine and flight is motivation. When pilots screw up they die, when doctors screw up, someone else dies. Medicine idolizes heroes, a single doctor doing everything and saving the day. In air travel the he

If you have a chance I'd recommend reading The Checklist Manifesto [1]. There's data showing that checklists are effective in medical settings. The point of checklists is not to give you a flow-chart of exactly what to do. Their p

I found this out recently, in case anyone else doesn't know, messenger.com [1] gets you facebook chat without the rest of facebook. I use it a lot during the day when I want to talk to people but not get sucked into the news feed. [1]

One of my relatively new coworkers did this a while ago, the logic was: "We can't deploy until the build is green, and this test is failing, so I'll just skip this test so we can deploy." Great teachable moment

Sounds like they're hosted entirely on Heroku and didn't want to go through the effort of adding external infrastructure. But I just found out apparently you can host Nginx on Heroku [1] which is neat, but looks a bit sketchy [1]

To be fair, auto-braking isn't useful until you need it, and by that point you're about a half second away from smashing into another car so you don't have much time to think about it. That feature alone could reduce total cr

We use existing ones, but we haven't added any new ones in 2-3 years. Our web code dates back to before module bundlers were around and removing jQuery isn't really worth the effort.
