Errr.. the linked article means no, it is not safe to just cron an apt-get upgrade. In theory Debian is maintaining ABI/API. In practice there are issues. Rolling releases in practice have better tradeoffs, but require continuous de

This is cool from a philosophy of the internet angle. It's also one of the worst workloads to try with P2P so it will be interesting to watch as a business. There are a number of fundamentally half-duplex technologies in widespread us

In the follow on procurement or the contract competition? The M9 is pretty old school and should be replaced. The p320 is a pretty nice side arm at a reasonable price on the civilian market.

I would consider Scala a far better language from a safety, syntax and design perspective. Go is compelling due to the low GC pause times, and to some extent the community for some types of software. I would imagine switching between thes

I'm on vanilla FreeBSD now. Ports is about equally as cool as Portage, but Poudriere and quarterly branches edges out for commercial use IMO. And I get a neat kernel and community that are both approachable and fun to work with.

I can't help but wonder what would have been different had IBM been successful in the Sun acquisition. It would have been a strange marriage, and there were a lot more staffing and product redundancies that would have still hurt custo

As a long time user of OpenRC, I was pretty sad when Debian jumped into systemd by default instead of sticking to something like OpenRC as the default. It's light weight, easy to use, embraces POSIX, and a good modular building block

There are a lot of issues here that should eventually be lower hanging fruit, but required some infrastructure. EARLY_AP_STARTUP which gets SMP in order a lot sooner should allow for drivers to attach earlier. I vaguely recall some idea o

In the BSD community this awareness of other operating systems is seen as a strength and pride. It's telling that Linux fans see it as weakness. Subsystems are now done with up front design and some degree of consensus in the BSDs, cl
