Other people exercising their rights to speech and freedom of association in response to someone's speech is not an attack on freedom of expression.

There's often not a clear line separating the professional and the personal, and people in a job can feel uncomfortable with a person who has expressed troubling opinions outside the job. But this is presuming that Stallman's beha

Not sure about the S, but the 3’d big screen looks really goofy to me and was a definite factor in my decision to wait for more electric car competition.

Frankly, I'm often interested in a conversation but just have trouble keeping the conversation from heading into terminal states. Perhaps thats just because the other party isn't interested.

Exactly this. From a consumer perspective, being subject to the US legal system is a big advantage.

It's a pattern with Elon. He found out Twitter critic's identity and called up their boss to try to get the guy fired. There's pretty credible allegations that he retaliates against whistleblowers as well. Elon Musk is not

Interestingly I’ve had the same observations that you’ve had about the work the Spark project has done to work around the JVM. And is also been idly wondering what a native-first distributes data processing framework would look like and how

I wonder if thats just the food banks playing cultural norms to their advantage. All being said and done, and equal value cash donation would probably be better for them, as the article outlined, but the real result of asking for cash woul

I was rather shocked to find that python didn’t have a full-featured crypto library included in its standard lib. The alternatives all ended up being unmaintained or maintained by small groups (which makes trust in the soundness difficult).

My remark was more about how often this case is trotted out as setting a concerning precedent. Gawker basically acted like jackasses and blew their own leg off, and Thiel was just there to make sure they didn't miss. It's hard f

What Gawker did to Hulk Hogan was illegal and unethical. And when they were told to take the video down by a judge they refused to do so. Gawker lost because they were in the wrong and were destroyed because they refused to just take the L

I would argue that having tons of dependencies is a problem in and of itself. This has become normal in software development because it’s been made easy to include dependencies, but a lot of the costs and risks are hidden.

I'm not sure that it would matter much in practice. I don't think anyone really reads the code for their transitive dependencies.

I think the first point of your rant is that it’s a misonomer and that’s correct. There’s still a server there. “Serverless” means that you don’t think about or manage individual servers yourself and let your provider abstract it away from

Whether something is a riot is often subjective and a lot of security arrangements are made for peaceful protests. After all a peaceful protest may turn into a riot. Or it may remain peaceful.

Protesting is a pretty fundamental right and societal value in America though. Cracking down on protests is, in my view, just as authoritarian as what the universities are accused of.

Its not specific to those examples though. Think of it like a thought experiment: a university literally can't host everyone so there's some criteria by which a guest needs to be judged. In America, a lot of the spots were canc
