Do you think Microsoft would ever support Gamepad API on Xbox, opening the market for free online games instead of going through their own store? It seems unlikely to me.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. It's automation only if you remove the biological elements from getting tasks done. Delegation is just getting someone who earns less money than you to do your boring stuff for you.

According to the article the main vulnerability would be the load-balancer, which is hosted separately. Traffic between it and the cloud instances is encrypted, so that the cloud providers don't actually know they're hosting The Pirate Bay.

I would trust Stripe, but only after seeing it verified as the owner of the SSL certificate of the website I'm using. There's way too much phishing going on for me to trust anything just shown in HTML branding.. Of course I realize that 'no

It's not more insecure, but it seems impossible for the end-user to know whether a Stripe form that just popped up is real or fake. Whereas you can first redirect the user to a well-known payment site, where they can verify the site's ident

It's beautiful, but how does the user verify that the credit card popup form is being posted to a valid, secure site? I mean, normally you'd first be redirected to a trusted payment site and verify its SSL identity in the browser URL bar. T

As a developer, I would be happy to no longer have to deal with iPad 1's. They really have little memory to work with and it tends to constantly run out. Particularly when you try to pre-render things in memory to have them smoothly scrol

Makes me wonder, if emails and SMS messages start to carry more and more plaintext passwords (and links) providing direct access to everything, how will their security hold up in the long run? I don't think they are inherently very secure c

So it's, again, people forgetting that they used to write wall-to-wall messages in 2009, and that they were always visible to friends?

And you probably want to go with Nginx instead of lighttpd to stay a bit more current.

I didn't mean to be discouraging, sorry about that. It's just that I think "replacing Skype" is more about non-technical things than setting up a SIP server. I used to be involved with this industry back in the day of SER 0.x. It was pretty

You quickly run into the need for this if you build an API where clients can update individual fields within JSON documents instead of just replacing the whole JSON document with a PUT. It can probably be argued that each individual field c

A bit bold to talk about running your own server to replace Skype. You'd need to get 32 million users to switch over.

I still try to live by this rule, and keep it in my signature: http://three.sentenc.es/ Sometimes it's three paragraphs instead of three sentences, but I think that tends to work nearly as well.

I think it's been over 2 years since I last used .htaccess or Apache, having moved on to Nginx and separate application servers like Node, Gunicorn and php-fpm.

I wonder if this approach supports separate virtualenvs for each gunicorn server? (Each with a custom set of packages.)

Zero? It's a bit funny if even the developer hasn't downloaded their own app to test it.. It's true however that if you just publish an app with no marketing (or some kind of existing brand leverage), you pretty much get zero downloads from

This no longer applies if you use Mac OS X. Most settings dialogs have no "Apply" button and applications no longer have "Save" buttons. The user expects that things will be committed immediately as you do them. In fact, there is no "commit

You should never, ever install EC2 servers like this, unless they're meant for temporary testing. When the EC2 instance terminates (and it will, eventually) your server goes down and all your data stored on the ephemeral disk is gone. What

I've found Handlebars to be the sweet spot for templating. Mustache is too limited for my taste and seems to force me to pre-render parts of the HTML, so that the template doesn't actually contain all of it. Or there will be many small temp
