Why is top down easier? I have a few "neat ice kit" which does that for ice cubes for drinking, but the results are very mixed. I've always wondered why it's a top down design instead of a bottom up? It seems to me like

Seems this thread was killed by flags. @dang — curious what the reasoning is here. It's not a pleasant subject to discuss but it's a very important topic these days. I understand the concerns about generating flame wars, but I

Ukraine is a small country, easy to avoid. The GP was talking about Russia in general though, which is much harder to avoid. The traffic to East Asia is far greater and more important than that to Southeast.

You should like the 787 then, the windows are quite a bit larger. I don't mind the dimming feature, it takes a moment but it works, and I like the ability to have partial dimming. The only thing I don't love is when they're c

The likelihood of an incident like that even with a bleed air system is rather tiny, considering the air comes from the cold bypass section of the engines, and there's a redundancy in that multiple engines are available to provide it.

These were the first two planes off the line and they were significantly heavier and performed much worse than most of the other 380s. Singapore Airlines got rid of them for that very reason, while still taking delivery of new 380s. This is

There's a point at which the time spent boarding becomes too great considering the time in the air. The A380 is a large plane, and you really need 3 jetways to board it in any amount of reasonable time. The mentioned routes are mostly

I think you mean SQ / SIA / Singapore Airlines. South African doesn't operate any A380s.

Maybe flying a Russian airline is a good way to insure you won't get shot down flying over Russian / Ukrainian airspace (which is hard to avoid if you're flying Europe to Asia)

I'm not surprised they were having issues if their systems are optimized for less than a million monthly unique users. The article says 320,000. A single popular news article could easily absolutely overwhelm that level of traffic.

I think we would be a bit better off if US restaurants felt more comfortable telling customers to take a hike. I'm entirely ok with restaurants that have no vegan/gluten free/whatever options and refuse substitutions.

This article is ridiculous. Yeah, SF is expensive, but $80k+ is a ridiculously large income for front-of-house service staff. When I first started working as a software engineer in SF, I was making $70k/year and I survived just fine. I

That depends on whether you're in Asia or the USA. On the USA the 787s are mostly displacing routes that would've been operated with connecting partners (eg United to a bunch of Chinese cities), vs in Asia where they're used
