Because momentum and attention are more important than maturity. The qualities that come from maturity can be built with work; momentum and attention aren't as much of a function of hard work and are far more difficult to capture.

Microsoft needs to spin off sub-brands like Toyota has done with Scion. There's a lot of cool stuff that Microsoft would have better luck selling under a more hip brand name.

The Courier was precisely the device I wanted. I don't know if they had it working as well, or could make it work as well, as it did in the videos. I remember describing a device like the Courier the day before I saw it. HUGE disappointment

It's just not smart to replace a system that only works well in IE 6 because it might mess up your employees' ability to waste their time on some guy's random startup. There are perfectly legitimate reasons why a corporation would continue

People will always be willing to join new social networks in search of exclusivity. Facebook might always occupy the number one spot, but this is a large market. Diaspora is appealing to me because it's appealing to many of my geeky friends

I've been using this for the past couple of years in my day job. The ability to pull in .NET assemblies is very powerful and is a real godsend in a Microsoft environment.
