There's a bunch of Python used for CLI tools and simple API webservers that Go also excels at replacing.

Sure. The interns have their own branch, but it doesn't stop them from being disruptive to the human in charge of mentoring them.

I'm more partial to the summer interns hypothesis.

I felt it pretty clearly in West LA. My dog decided to roll onto her back to get a massage out of the earthquake.

It looks like instead of making a better error handling system, they just made it easier to not type `if err != nil` everywhere. Then there's all that handler stuff that looks very much like Java's `try ... catch` in reverse order

Sure, make it a chart. If you paid tuition during X year, you get $Y per month attended.

My rule of thumb is 3 times. Whatever is abstracted away must be used at least 3 times. It's amazing how much preemptive prettification by abstraction it prevents.

I agree this is straight up pork barrel politics, not good policy, and rewards poor behavior without anything preventing the problem from happening again. A simpler, fairer proposal: give _everyone_ who attended college in the last X years

Google bricked my 2013 Google I/O special edition Nexus 7 a month after they gave them to us. Can't say I had much confidence in Google devices after that.

Arguably, if you can't safely operate a vehicle one-handed for your other hand to use the knob, you definitely shouldn't be using a touchscreen.

With touchscreens, there's always the balance of putting the screen in line-of-sight while driving while keeping it close enough to be touchable. I like the touchpad system in the new Acura RDX the most as a compromise, has most of the

I bought my first big screen TV on Amazon store credit back when I was in college with a typical college student income. 18mo/0% APR is awesome when your credit limit and bank balance is $700.

This exactly. If I'm doing concentration heavy work, I'll mute IM and batch respond when I get water/bathroom. I also have toasts on a side screen so `hey` messages I can quickly read and ignore without losing focus. IM is on

Keeping a group in sync is also possible (and I'd say preferable) via email, since current objectives and sprints don't change very quickly at all relative to the speed of conversation, and both have natural paper trails. But if y

There's also a strong correlation between strong communication skills and strong technical skills in our industry that demands frequent learning of new skills. So not only does strong communication augment technical skills, it also sig

My experience is, UPS always arrives on time, Fedex sometimes a day late, USPS rarely arrives late, but if it's late, it's usually not arriving at all. The worst, by far, is Amazon's own delivery service. Often late, frequent

Even as English speaking person in an English speaking country, I get non-English ads on Google properties. It's astonishing how bad Google's ad targeting is sometimes.

I love reading the AWS post-mortems since they're always very detailed in describing the roles of the impacted systems, the intention of the action that caused the outage, the actual action triggered, all the nuances involved in the bu

I agree that RTB probably is healthier for the advertising ecosystem, but given how rampant privacy abuses are, blasting out a users private information to every bidder in the auction seems like a tough sell.

Notice how you were able to call out the de facto package manager for those languages, but didn't for Python? I would imagine supporting the various Python package managers in use would be a bit annoying.

I think complexity in software becomes difficult to grok as software gets bigger, and go does seem to go out of their way to code easier to understand at a hilariously micro scale at a huge cost at the macro level.
