I'm curious which company hired Porsche Engineering for this. Porsche wouldn't hesitate adding more sensors for their own vehicles.

I think it's because you can add better tires to car with 4WD if you determine you need it. You can't add 4WD/AWD to a car with winter tires.

Younger opinions are easier to influence. Older opinions are pretty ingrained which makes them annoying to deal with when they come up.

If I had to guess, it probably comes down to Go's gzip libraries being not as mature as the optimized to death C-based ones in nginx/apache.

The interesting part is it could've worked if Google actually understood gaming. The PS4's remote play capability is more than usable for most games. That pretty much relies on your own uplink speed and hops over residential inter

Point is, they wouldn't design them that way if it didn't work or if people didn't like them. Retail works best when it's convenient. Classic American malls were not. Cities are designed too. Why don't we design the

Just look at Tokyo as an example of what a city organically grows into. Every major transport hub is filled with shopping and food. NYC is abit the same way. I like it. People generally don't like living right next to transportation hu

But Firefox always had superior and better performing AdBlock which made whatever speed advantage Chrome had pretty irrelevant. I think the draw to Chrome for developers at the time was the better built-in dev tools compared to Firebug.

I would assume that most companies have a physical location somewhere and it wouldn't be difficult to track the number of employees that regularly report on-site.

I know that feeling. So many times I come across a great scene, snap a photo with my phone, and instantly regret not bringing my DSLR with me.

My 5 year old DSLR has GPS tagging for every photo. I mostly keep it off because it kills the battery. I suspect most serious photographers don't care about geotagging.

Canon and Nikon and I'm sure others already have a WiFi adapter you can plug into the SD card slot that does exactly this.

I think Sony could realistically do both in one product. They already make flagship smartphones that are hardware-competitive with everyone else's flagships. They supply the camera sensors for everyone's flagship product. They hav

> You want to start hiring more juniors because juniors slow down the pace of new growth and you want things to slow down. First time I've seen someone so accurately nail this effect of hiring junior engineers. I think this one is c

In this case, it sounds like a rollback (killing B, forcing all B-clients to reconnect to A) is just as damaging as continuing to deploy B (forcing all A-clients to reconnect to B). The tiebreaker for favoring of B would be A is already dea

My rule of thumb once you're already in a bad state is to figure out the fastest way to get to a good enough stable state. Deploys/roll-forwards are very commonly worn paths, so it's usually pretty easy to speed up a deploy o

Considering a typical HCoL junior dev costs about ~100k/yr, if you can have one junior dev rewrite your entire codebase in a year, you'll breakeven in cost after 2 years. Considering a senior dev costs 2-3x that amount per year, a

It doesn't matter because the glass isn't load bearing. Sunroofs are even less rigid and safe than panoramic glass roofs and cars have been passing safety tests with those for decades.

That's not even that impressive and pretty standard for the industry. The relatively pedestrian Mazda3 resists 18,239lbs, which is 6x it's weight. Just about every family sedan on the market does >5x body weight.

It has a much larger area exposed to the elements (the magnetic rails). Basically this is building a mini maglev train and attaching a wiper to it, while the traditional setup is just a motor. Up to you to decide if a train is more complica
