Yeah it was back in February in your community Slack, I did receive a fairly thorough response from you and others about it. However then there were no technical critiques of the Go benchmarking code, just how our PostgreSQL comparison wou

Thanks for reaching out. I shared this benchmarking script with your team when we tested Tigerbeetle, but this is it again: https://gist.github.com/KelseyDH/c5cec31519f4420e195114dc9c8... Was there something wrong wi

Ok your comment made me double check our benchmarking script in Go. Can confirm we didn't instantiate a new client with each request. For transparency here's the full Golang benchmarking code and our results if you want to replic

We certainly are losing that efficiency, but this is typically how real-time transactions work. You write real-time endpoints to send off transactions as they come in. Needing to roll more than that is a major introduction of complexity.

We didn't observe any automatic batching when testing Tigerbeetle with their Go client. I think we initiated a new Go client for every new transaction when benchmarking, which is typically how one uses such a client in app code. This

We didn't rule out using Tigerbeetle, but the drop in non-batch performance was disappointing and a reason we haven't prioritised switching our transaction ledger from PostgreSQL to Tigerbeetle. There was also poor Ruby support fo

I recently did performance testing of Tigerbeetle for a financial transactions company. The key thing to understand about Tigerbeetle's speed is that it achieves very high speeds through batching transactions. ---- In our testing: For

It's a reverse of what you're describing, but a similar mechanism like this in Canada is their notwithstanding clause. If the Supreme Court of Canada rules a law unconstitutional, the government in power can overrule their ruling

I miss the days when Facebook events worked well for getting people to attend a party. Now, nobody is on Facebook so those event invitations get missed and you need to hustle much harder with individual chat messages to get people to attend

This doesn't fit at all with how governance and politics works in reality. Rapid changes to society or a crisis can suddenly make deeply unpopular ideas very popular.

Is us-east-1 equally unstable to the other regions? My impression was that Amazon deployed changes to us-east-1 first so it's the most unstable region.

Back in 2018, it wasn't widely known that Ozempic would become a blockbuster weight loss drug. So it was possible they made the business decision based on its more limited use as a diabetes drug.

It seems like this can be mostly avoided by not using us-east-1.

Is Linux gaming on Steam actually competitive in performance and availability to what you'll get on Windows? I'm looking into building a gaming computer I'm surprised to hear I could roll with Linux for it.

When I come across a profound excerpt or cool quote I stash it in my Random Excerpts section of my note taking app. It's a pleasure to go back and read the cool things I've totally forgotten about.

My gripe with Youtube Music is that the bitrate quality of their music is lower than Tidal or even Spotify. YTM audio files that are actually on Youtube will only stream in 128kbps.

When I was young I had a weird cognitive bias where I would think that if something tasted curious or different, that it must be good for you in some way. E.g. the odd taste of licorice. Must mean that it was healthy or good right? Turns

I agree wholeheartedly. What none of the review sites have figured out is how to adjust TV show user scores so that they don't score so much higher than movies.

Rotten Tomatoes is the First Past the Post of movie reviews. Incredibly distorted and unreliable in capturing the sentiment of the majority.

Weirdly I often find films with an RT score in the range of 40% to 60% with high-ish IMDB scores to be the most interesting. Whereas an RT 90%+ score without IMDB/Metacritic consensus the film is good typically means its mass-produced

I appreciate the sentiment, but time in life is limited. Streaming is 95% slop so it really does pay to let others curate you the best films, with tolerance for a lower rating if it's a genre you particularly like.

I generally find IMDB user scores far more reliable and granular for movies. There is a noticeable jump in a movie's quality when it gets a 6.x rating (okay), versus a 7.x (great) versus an 8.x (a Top 500 of all time). Metacritic is t
