It does sound interesting, and for $50, I'd be very tempted to try it. But yeah, who puts -1px letter spacing on their body copy? Ouch. Painful.

Desktop, because I love the 24in monitor, the big WACOM tablet, the 8 gigs of RAM, and the feel of coding on the giant tank of an IBM Model M keyboard with the buckling-spring keys from 1986.

Those all look like perfectly legitimate, thorough error messages to me, far moreso than many languages would give you. Would it be confusing to a newbie? Maybe, but they're called newbies for a reason. Pay attention to details + write test

This isn't the main bundle, and they've been known to give away small collections of apps before, e.g. the Giving Tree at Christmas time. They also give away a ton of free apps for participating in missions during the actual Macheist events

Oh, no, I didn't mean to imply that. I don't think anyone here is being unreasonable. I just meant that I've had enough awesome from Linode that I'm willing to give them a pass on this one. Everyone screws up now and then. :)

Personally, I haven't noticed any downtime today on our linodes in Dallas and Atlanta. I don't know. I get the complaint about lack of communication, on the other hand, though, I'd rather have them working to solve the problem than sitting

Same here. I'd toyed with BASIC as a kid, but learning mIRC's scripting language was my first real attempt at learning to program something. I spent hours playing around in it making little utilities and add-ons and bots, etc.

Reminds me of Pockets ( http://pocketsapp.com/ ), for short messages and voicemail, which was one of my favorite entries in this year's Rails Rumble.

Learn it early and use it often. It will literally only take a couple of hours to pick up the basics, and then it's jsut practice. Learn more from there as you need to. Even if you're a solo developer, version control is an invaluable tool.

From what I"ve seen based on the number of customers we have who bring in computers so riddled with viruses that they won't function (about 500 so far this year in a town of 15k people), it's dangerous to rely on Symantec, because about 90%

I have a Macbook that runs Leopard and my desktop runs WinXP Pro. I prefer the Mac OS to Windows, but the Windows PC has more powerful hardware for running the graphics apps and my little white Macbook just can't keep up.It also has a 24in

I think you would see a large drop in population before we were able to rebuild. Population growth only occurs when the technology can support it. If we were starting over without any of the knowledge we have now, then it seems reasonable t

The bit about a good programmer knowing a lot of unrelated technologies is entirely off-base, IMO. Better to specialize in one area and be the best you can be at that than spend your time learning a lot of technologies you will never use, j

Same here. I love the idea behind my startup and I love working on it. Have to say, though, I love the family more. I spend every spare minute I can on my startup, but not at the expense of my family. Their needs and spending time with them

I gave this a try and the change in color temperature gave me a splitting headache in approximately 3.2 seconds... until I finally managed to stare at the monitor long enough to kill the app.... a splitting headache that has remained with m

You make a very good point, sir. :) It's definitely something we need/want to learn more about (Hi, I would be the other co-founder). I've set up a few servers in the past for small, personal things, so I feel like I have a good basic under
