If they had been paying for the images upfront, wouldn't you expect them to train the model on the non-watermarked versions?

Sure, but there are requirements in place to address some of those things. The commission can't be more than half+1 of the same political party, has to include a mix of lawyers and non-lawyers, etc. Compared to blatantly partisan judic

Addressing the title rather than the story, I really like the system Colorado has for state judges and wish we could copy it at the federal level. A nonpartisan panel creates a pool of candidates, then the governor nominates one and the sta

You can even get more devious and use timing differences to serve one thing to `curl` and a different thing to `curl | bash`: https://www.idontplaydarts.com/2016/04/detecting-curl-pipe-b...

In addition to the raw costs of moving anything into space, there is the contingency cost of what happens if the launch goes wrong. A new satellite blowing up on the launchpad is bad, but a cargo of nuclear waste exploding a few seconds aft

QDirstat and K4Dirstat were the ones to use as of a few years ago; I don't know if there's a newer option since then.

I feel like a lot of these awesome curated lists would provide more value if the curator added some notes. "You probably want A unless you need to do X, in which case you should choose B or C. D isn't production-ready yet but is m

I liked the way Howard Zinn (who had his own rather strong biases, of course) made that point in the afterword to A People's History of the United States : >But there is no such thing as a pure fact, innocent of interpretation. Beh

With the battery life being one of the primary complaints people have, and with the modularity being one of the main selling points of the Framework, I'm surprised they don't have different battery options. There used to be (maybe

One thing I miss about Mercurial was only having to type enough of a subcommand to be unambiguous. `hg st` is much shorter than `git status`. I wish all CLI tools worked that way.

I really thought Keybase had potential to take over this space. It was easy to set up, came with encrypted messaging and file storage, and gave end users ways to assert their identity that didn't rely on traditional certificate authori

I liked Longitude and would recommend Galileo's Daughter , also by Dava Sibel. It's a biography of Galileo supplemented with letters he exchanged with his daughter, who was a Catholic nun.

Another neat "pick an OS to boot into" tool I discovered recently is Ventoy [1]. You install the bootable menu on your USB drive, and then you just drop ISOs or IMGs on there to add choices. [1] https://ventoy.net/

Sad to see this listed as "the last Zachtronics game". They have consistently put out some of the best puzzle games, but I suppose it's good to quit while you're on top.

I think that's kind of the point. You wouldn't want to drive your car across a bridge that was live-designed on YouTube. You want a bridge that was designed in a boring way with lots of redundant safety systems.

Delphi 8 could have eaten then whole native Windows pie if they hadn't tried to chase Microsoft into the .Net world. It wasn't always pretty but it was so easy to throw together business apps that got the job done.
