Interesting. I legitimately liked perl back in the day. The ability to do things like inline c code, etc. was great. But I've been immediately passing on any roles that mention Perl for a long time.

I don't know. I've been writing software for over 24 years. I'm not that ancient but learning c as a youngster helps pad the numbers. There's an awful lot of cyclical patterns in development, and an awful lot of converge

I think it's more along the lines that most new technology is not fundamentally different from the old solutions. Like how different is HMVC from PAC for example. How different are cool language x's Mixins from Lisp or C#. How dif

I suspect it's probably much more straight forward to horizontally scale across nodes with Erlang/Elixir and OTP than with Go.

Elixir/Erlang is slower than java for computationally expensive non tail optimized large struct operations maybe. For simple requests with ginormous thread counts the point of failure is going to get hit way sooner with Java than Erlan

And here i'm happy with my 8k requests per second Elixir IOT solution. I use long lived processes and had to come up with some magic to work around the supervisor behavior with high child counts, etc. Roughly I randomly assign worked t

There are ways to speed up message passing. It's not slow by any means but weird things become your bottle neck when you have 5m concurrent users. For instance you have to build you OTP tree extra layers deep or spawn hundreds of super

I had a similar experience. Windows 2000, ME, 98 and 95, Suse Linux, BeOS. BeOS was way better at multitasking, video playback, etc. I really lamented it's fall.
