There can be emergent, uncoordinated cooperation between competitors. If two both adopt similar policies of price matching, one can raise prices without consequence and the other will soon follow. It has come up on HN before... google rea

They are already here. http://kmkeen.com/tmp/wikireader1.jpg I think this weekend I'll release the image view for the wikireader I've been working on. It can smoothly pan/zoom images that are thousands of pixels wide.

Odd. I have the Thinkpad equivalent (x120e) and I agree on almost all your points except performance. 720p plays fine in linux, 1080p plays fine too but only with vaapi acceleration. Have never booted windows on it, so I can't compare th

You should be using Pacmatic. The --force thing was a news feed item, and Pacmatic would have shown you the official news before you could have done damage.

Interesting that they only make comparisons with PIC and 8051. AVR still blows them away on many angles; particularly energy efficiency, community, ease of use on not-windows, and price. (MSP430 too, for efficiency and price.) I'm fooling

I prefer caps lock to Control. ^C does the same thing as escape in Vi[m]. While it is chording, the combo is pretty easy to hit. This is a bit of a compromise, but all the other programs that are not vim will benefit from it.

If you don't want to give money to Sony, the Sennheiser HD-280 is nearly identical. Same sized ear pads, nearly identical bandwidth/specs, same coiled cord, same price. Made in Ireland for some odd reason.

This is going to be a huge disappointment. A mid range LED flashlight with a single CREE emitter will run for 10 hours on two AA batteries while putting out 50 lumens the entire time. So we can guess guess the output of this bike light base

Reminds me of the Van Gogh from "Heretics of Dune" (written in 1984). > The Ixians had been at their best in the preservation and restoration. An observer could touch a dark spot on the lower left corner of the frame. Immediately, you

No. It was like that (where vi is just a lightweight recompile of vim) several years ago. Since then Arch has switched to using ex-vi[1], the closest thing to 'authentic' vi you can get nowadays. [1] http://ex-vi.sourceforge.net

I use a second browser just for JS and flash. It never has more than 3 tabs open and is quite light on memory usage.

Turn off flash and javascript. That should reduce your browser's memory use by 90%. And use Opera. I can easily fit 200 tabs in under a GB.

I prefer GNU Screen for the nethack mode. It is a shame that Screen does not ship with a nicer hardstatusline by default - you can do some really amazing things there.

No, you took the Moon's velocity relative to the Earth. The Moon orbits the Sun and its velocity relative to Earth is only useful for astrology purposes.

At 1AU, orbital velocity is 42.3 km/s. Io does 17.3 km/s relative to Jupiter. Io would be gone. Calliso does 8.2 km/s and I highly suspect that would be too fast to maintain a planetary orbit at 1AU. The orbital velocity of Earth is the

Your Deimos (and Moon) velocities are off, as those are velocities relative to Mars and Earth comparatively. The real question is, does 24.1km/s +- 1.3km/s keep Deimos in orbit without Mars. 5% change in velocity will probably knock it a

No. If the Earth's mass were to vanish, the Moon would continue to orbit the Sun. It would be a bit more wobbly, but the Earth is not an essential part of the system. If the same happened to Jupiter, all of those moons would fly out of of

As a power user, I really appreciate Chromium's command line arguments. --user-agent is vastly simpler than anything else. I don't use Chromium myself, but it does get pulled out whenever someone needs a "legacy" browser.
