I have worked as an Android developer for about two years, then had to do project in Flutter. Learnt it over a weekend and getting the UI right took me less time then if I were to do it in native Android (before compose).

I don't see much of a difference between trying to keep replaceable jobs and making up useless jobs all together. In the future, government might need to provide jobs for people who cannot get one on the market, but should be something

Are you learning German by any chance? I'm currently finishing development of spaced repetition, llm powered app for learning German vocabulary and I'm looking for feedback and early access users.

A great thing in VLC are "h" and "k" (I think) shortcuts, which shift the subtitles 100ms forward and backward.

Also might be worth a try to watch some design YouTubers, it's interesting to see their process, what they focus on, etc.

I've found the best to test everything from the http handler to database in one test. Unless you want to write 5 different tests for each endpoint. In one project we've run the tests against in-memory db and production was postgre

I'm from central Europe and while I agree with some of your points, I see it as an advantage. If I manage to get 1-2k in passive income, it would completely cover my expenses, so the bar for success is much lower than in the US.

Yes, that's exactly right. 40 visits, is just what plausible measures, and looking at GCloud logs, seems that container start count is in similar range.

Just to give some specific numbers: - 40 visits a day - costs 0.01 USD per month - cold start time: 350 ms - however request latencies are 99%: 120ms, 95%: 85ms, 50%: 5ms - there seems to be "idle" instance like 80% of the time Th

My default for websites which do not require database is docker image + Google cloud run. Costs almost nothing, easy clickops deployment from GitHub, https managed, reasonably fast cold starts.

The app seems to be running at 60hz on Android with 90hz screen. It's a common giveaway for Flutter apps, but can be fixed by forcing higher refresh rate.

You can still use global styles with tailwind. After you style components like buttons, inputs and cards globally, I've found surprisingly low amount of repetition.

Hi, I've recently gave supabase a shot to as an alternative to firebase because I needed SQL. One thing that I've struggled with from the start is that supabase seems to ignore backends completely. I don't want to use supabas

My favourite is when CS professors rewrite algorithms in latex and use single letter variables only. So much student time could be saved if they just wrote it in python.

I don't know if this extension foxes it, but I've found learning language through Netflix difficult as the subtitles and dialog don't match, neither for dubbing or original.

Yet another language learning app. The aim is to be the opposite of Duolingo, that is teaching the last 10% of a language. It's basically a glorified Anki Deck builder, which picks out vocabulary which user does not yet from texts/

I've made multiple projects with firebase, but the main problem for me was lack of SQL database. NoSQL was a bad choice literally on all of the projects I've decided to give it a try.
