Yep, OrbStack's networking issue (similar PF bug) was also fixed in RC 2.

This is supposed to be possible on macOS, but it's basically completely broken (just doesn't work) due to a bug. Apple is aware of it but unfortunately hasn't said much more. Obviously that limits the options, but I'll s

Thanks! I won't be too specific because of a certain competitor looming on the horizon, but so far my plan is to focus on improving DX.

Love to hear it! The plan is for machines to be like WSL2: as integrated as possible. Not sure what you mean by Virtualization features? I won't say never, but no plans for macOS or Windows VMs for now.

The goal is that OrbStack is just a lot nicer to use. Better performance, lower resource usage, and many DX features (several of which are covered) that go together to create a delightful experience. It's also a lot cheaper than the D

The same PF bug is breaking one of OrbStack's networking features. I found it hard to believe when I narrowed it down to this, but I guess I'm not alone. Really hoping this is fixed before the stable release. I didn't get a c

And maybe it is! We'll have to see how this all works out. I could very well be wrong about that. In my opinion, JetBrains' perpetual fallback model is more of a psychological thing than something you'd actually utilize — at

I responded down here, but it's much more than an "alternative GUI for Docker": https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37335646 Of course, you're free to build your own with a VM and at least a couple mont

There's a feature request for Vagrant support: https://github.com/orbstack/orbstack/issues/105 Hasn't been that common of a request, and honestly I've never used Vagrant so not familiar with it

Can you give an example? OrbStack currently sets up an IPv4+6 interface linked to a "unified bridge" with both the macOS host and other Linux machines on it, plus NAT to the outside world: https://docs.orbstack.dev/

Great to hear! Quick question for you actually: what's the value prop of having VMs and containers in one? I've been having a hard time with that from a marketing perspective.

I don't want to say "never" to macOS or Windows VMs, but so far my plan is to focus on Linux and its applications (containers, Kubernetes, etc.).

I do think Virtualization.framework is generally better overall, for what it's worth — just not the panacea that people make it out to be sometimes :) My main point was that Apple has few inherent advantages over third-party VMMs like

Technically yes, but CPU only. In theory it might be possible to support ANE/MPS, but it wouldn't be useful in practice because Linux software isn't built to use them, and there wouldn't be a good way to expose them.

Yeah, I can understand that, but since it's for work I figured I'd ask whether it's a flat-out objection to anything paid, or if it's more to do with something specific about the license. Thanks for pointing that line ou
