Hey HN! I'm a software developer at YC and the author of this post. This post is actually a bit of an experiment. We're trying to find better ways to get prospective startup founders (which includes many of us in the HN community)

I agree with everything that the article writes. That said, if you work in SF and are looking for a concrete way to improve your commute today without adding another car to the road, consider purchasing an electric bike or scooter. I'v

I disagree with the assertion that discount stores are dependent on economic stagnation. I live in a dense urban area well served by traditional retailers, and have a great job that allows me to shop wherever I want. And yet, half my shoppi

That's kind of ironic, considering that solar plants can keep an effectively unlimited number of "days of fuel" on hand.

This is the right answer. If you'll be working on similar things/running the same code as the other developers, just get a Mac (can be old/refurbished to save money). You'll save a ton of headache over trying to figure o

We're always looking for more ways to help more startups, sometimes within the framework of our original incubation program and sometimes without it. If YC lives up to its potential, I suspect the startups that actually end up going th

In a divorce, you don't require that all parties agree that divorcing is the right decision. If a single party wants to dissolve the relationship, that is sufficient. There's more nuance when we're talking about entire states

It sounds like you're talking about electron-style desktop apps, not React Native? They're quite different in architecture and performance.

Out of curiousity, how are you able to detect React Native apps so you can avoid them? Facebook introduced React Native to their main app months before anyone noticed. Airbnb also was using it for a while before they publicly announced the

I guess it depends on what your cutoff is for "good". I can say from firsthand experience that senior developers at Facebook or Google are hitting those numbers pretty easily.

150 CAD at current exchange rates is 123 USD. That puts the 2-3x range at 246-369 USD. That's actually a bit low for a good senior developer in the current Bay Area market.
