The difference being, of course, that the Falcon 9 Full Thrust hasn't actually left Earth orbit yet. Mark to market applies as much to space technology as it does to credit default swaps.

Just because they aren't running it for profit doesn't mean they don't have a bottom line. The additional effort to run a pledge drive is probably not worth the administrative overhead.

At banks I worked at, they did it once a year, HARD. Lots of loss of morale for two weeks after that...after which things stabilized again. During crises, it hit in waves. That was another kind of drawn out hell: people wondering "am I

This is actually fine by me: if you want to pay me to do nothing, that's fine -- I'll just look at it as conditional severance. As an employer, you should know that I'll be using the time to look for other jobs on my phone th

The networking giants at least aren't planning on selling hardware for much longer: they want to become purveyors of SDN technology that runs on commodity OCP-style hardware. I am guessing they are part of these initiatives so that the

120-140K base with a 60-70K bonus was about where the average was for tech programmers. This is barely competitive in NY during the good years -- it sure as heck doesn't fly in bad years. Quant technologists are a different beast.

The House is close and there's a large bloc of non-suicidal Republican congressmen who will vote against impeachment. Even if the motion makes it past the House, the Senate will be Democratic: there is no way it will allow the 2/3

And by the time they get their act together, Clinton will be in the White House. I can't see the House taking up impeachment proceedings any time soon, regardless of the outcome of the FBI investigation.

Bizarrely, I'd rate the one I worked at as best in class as far as tech management goes. To back this up, I can draw on the experiences of my friends and former colleagues across the Street, and a large number of hair-raising interview

Or it could be experience speaking: I worked at one of these banks for a decade, and was distinctly unimpressed by the caliber of technology management.

Do it to the traders then, not the programmers. [edit] Saving 10K on a programmer, even multiplied over 1000 programmers isn't going to amount to a hill of beans in a crisis where the bank is at risk. My suspicion is that tech manageme

Next phase of the SAS stretches north up to 125th street. Funding is in place, and tunneling is already happening, and the project should be done by 2019. Is that good enough for you?
