It will be a replay of the 1970s when a combination of new emissions and safety standards locked a lot of niche manufacturers out of the US market. Pre-1975 exotics held value and even appreciated. The gray market, which imported high end

I can anecdotally confirm. My wife used to ride the Coast Starlight occasionally. About the fifth time she did, the train was delayed 18 hours. She missed a day of work, and has never ridden it since.

Model 3 is the fourth model. Roadster, S, X, 3. Unless you're counting S and X as one, since they share the same platform.

I wonder how old the author is. I "knew" the XXX convention was from CSRG, and Bill Joy would have been my first guess. I expect most people who worked with Unix in the '70s or early '80s would have guessed the same.

We consider it acceptable for a car to be mostly depreciated after five years of ownership. We do not want our houses to have lost value in five years, especially as many of us will still owe 75% of its value. A house is still a longer ter

It's useful to apply the Steve Yegge political axis metaphor[1] here. C forces a fairly conservative approach because it stocks a full arsenal of footguns. Pike and most of the early Unix guys, though, are about as liberal as they ca

Maybe you can advise me. I read Consider Phlebas, and I didn't like it at all. I rarely like war fiction. Is Phlebas typical of the whole Culture series, or are the other books a different kind of story? Thank you.

That's what the VT100 did with SI and SO. It's been 30? 35? years since I touched a VT100, but I think I recall there being a configuration bit to enable alternate character set on SI/SO.
