Is there a "Matlab: The good bits" guide out there somewhere? I think a style preference guide, made by an experienced programmer who worked on large matlab codebases would be valuable both for programmers who have to figure out h

While the mathematics use a bounding function, I am not sure how vital this is to a self taught programmer who is just trying to get insight into some algorithm.

Sure, but these days, Lua is almost certainly a better alternative, and actually provides neat things like first class function closures while maintaining it's simplicity.

Only sane way to reduce the risk of back doors is to have proper open architecture for at least the basic motherboard functionality, and then fully utilize IOMMU to limit what the devices can do. ... hahahaha, yeah right.

It is reasonable to expect a contingency plan. Is there any evidence of people using PRISM-style web scraping to influence politics in their favor? Not really, but that hardly means I trust the status quo.

It means it costs producers a lot of money to not be labeled as GMO, making GMO default. That seems silly. I really don't see the problem with labeling GMO foods.

Isn't abuse of power the most terrifying when it is used not for the extraordinary, but for the mundane? The very idea that police abuse of power is "mundane" in some way is disturbing.

The same way you learned to code: by doing it a lot. You might need to practice extra hard, and it might be extra frustrating, because you might have less talent in that area, but it is just a matter of going out and doing it, and then doin

The over-thinking story is just one of many rationalizations. "I can't do well because I am too smart , see?" People get frustrated when they are bad at something. The options are to get better or not. It is tempting to rati

If the patent office cannot do this work themselves, they should offload to the private sector: small bounties for prior work, paid out of a fraction of the filing fee. It costs a few hundred dollars to submit a patent... thus, they could e
