A measly 25-30 years ago the first modems were sending data at 1Kbps, today we can send data through 7.5 billion kilometres of space at the same speed, i think that is pretty impressive.

Imo web development in the open source field is a lot more complex than say developing in a strictly Java or .NET environment. Let's face it, most .NET or Java programmers are building some kind of CRUD app too. Over 10 years ago i hav

Apple builds the marketplace, just like Steam or HomeJoy. The fact that it's Apps are also based on their tech is irrelevant in this context. Steam also just provides a Marketplace without meaningful technology and has revenue in the h

What does Apple or steam offer developers for their 30% cut ? customers and ultimately revenue to sustain themselves. An open marketplace has incredible value if its popular. Tech is the easy part of most startups.

Sure, Australia is super huge and <10ms is a different thing. I live in germany and there are ISPs where you can get <10ms in the whole country. Sadly when i moved to Berlin the ISP situation got worse than in my previous much smaller

we really need a focus on low latency instead of bandwidth but i guess that's even worse in terms of marketing than upload bandwidth. But its frustrating to know that <10ms latencys are easily achievable with current technology but

Looking forward to this but given the fact that Unity is not the most stable piece of software on it's main platforms, i am still a bit skeptical.

Recently "The Witcher 3" sold 4M copies in a short amount of time whereas 1.3M are attributed to PC sales [1]. Even Indie games like Cities: Skylines which is PC/Mac only recently sold more than 1M copies in a short amount of

I don't like the idea of cockpit canopies in formula motorsport, but yesterdays accident could have easily cut Räikkönen in half. These cars are gorgeous though!

That should be much easier to optimize against vs having no paging at all though. Are Apps running in the background asked to free up storage or be killed before the active app needs to do the same or are they referring to the active app ?

That has nothing todo with what op is referring to. Even on iOS you have a virtual memory system, like a normal PC does. If your app runs out of ram it will page to storage and the OS handles this for you. The PS1/N64 did not have any

Yeah i thought about that too. My PC already had 8GB of RAM in 2009 and even today that is still totally fine for most games. However, consoles usually share RAM between GPU and CPU though and high end PC GPUs today have up to 8GB of VRAM w

That's not really the same though. You are not really limited by RAM in most cases, also you are not limited by slow storage media like CD/DVDs as it was/is with most of the consoles. The reality is, hardly anyone on mobile w
