Unfortunately, life isn’t that simple. I tried that and gotten beaten up and punished by the school for starting a fight. Multiple times. The bullies never got punished. This happened at two different schools. I had difficulty explaining wh

I can't think of anything that would justify that many layers. If I have that much complexity, I would split up the container or start writing bash scripts. The automation of containers looks simple but developers with systems experien

I have three different ways that vision seems to work with me. 1. Actually seeing something like in a dream. 2. A mental scratch pad I can draw on and use spatial awareness to navigate. (I see the code of applications as flying over a lands

That's on me, I missed that. If you could indulge me a bit, the author in me wants to be pedantic about this. :) In my defense, changing the definition of a term at the end of the article is begging to be misunderstood.

There are two definitions of taste: 1. How good or bad something is relative to some standard. 2. How well you're able to understand the medium and identify the differences between things.

What exactly does "taste" mean in this context? Taste is about artistic quality. Aesthetics is generally a tertiary concern when it comes to software or hardware tinkering. That assumes it's a concern at all. And while I&#x

It was never about state rights. It’s always been about power and control. Trump is the true face of the Republican party that’s finally come out. He’s not implementing the policies they want, but they wanted someone like him. The ultimate

(It 's TextMate. RIP) This is a case of "everything old is new again". A lot of this is new to the open source world. Proprietary systems have had this for decades. In a lot of ways, the stuff we use for things like javascrip

I suspect this is “the computer is always right”. A lot of people think computers have better answers than people. AI is just another type of computer. It knows a lot of things and sounds confident. Why wouldn’t it be right?

It's pretty easy to change the sources for ruby gems using "gem sources" or ~/.gemrc. I'm not sure how that could be improved.

I don’t think we’ll be able to replicate consciousness until we’re able to make things alive at a biological level. We can certainly make systems smart enough and people complicit enough to destroy society well before we reach that point.

People aren't robots that think through every single decision. Arson happens frequently and nobody dies. Death is a rare consequence and the arsonist didn't intend to kill someone, it feels like an accident, not murder. This is ho

I think laws enforced by the government are a difference in kind from social standards or company rules. Laws are backed by legal, physical violence.

Half the jobs I’ve worked, I’d be immediately fired if I interrupted a CEO’s speech. The other half, I’d be in serious trouble and I’d be first on any layoff.

I'm pretty sure Ruby already does this. if statements are expressions that return a value and return nil if there is no else. (Also 0 == true in Ruby. Only false or nil are not true.)

I’d disagree. :/ It’s a huge chuck metal well over a foot long in the middle of a lane. The center of a lane is usually higher than sides and an uneven patch of road can cause a slight bounce before it, further reducing clearance. I’d
