Having worked previously in the healthcare sector (both USA and AUS), I must agree. There is zero incentive for vendors to work together to share patient data. There is a standard for medical data already called HL7, but not everyone adhere

Digital Ocean is the most popular. But as others have mentioned, there is also Vultr. Vultr has locations in Sydney which was a big plus for me. I personally can vouch for Vultr. Been running a freebsd system with them for over a year now.

A lot of the comments seem to miss out on the basic premise which is: Don't sell yourself to business by taking a technical approach. (I do programming). It is much more effective if you approach business as - I solve problem X

In what other field do you have so much control and freedom to create? No matter how much someone directs you on how to program something, you always have that little bit of wiggle room to add your own creativity to it. Programming is like

I've been using bootstrap 4 in a current project and it is actually pretty good. Cards are way cooler than panels but don't go overboard as some bootstrap-cards themes have done where everything is a card.

The Quaker mentality lives. "Idleness is the hands of the devil." Work hard, long...it's the only way. I also get a "I work long hours why don't you" feeling I approach the subject.

I think you hit the nail on the head. There is big generation gap on how the execs view the business model vs how their teenagers are using the product. And as the new generation slowly takes over, the model will evolve. Evolve or die right

The cat and mouse game continues. Remember The Pirate Bay? Why don't studios have their own similar sites where they allow free torrents of some shows and offer paid torrents. As a busy person, I'd much rather pay for something wh

The nerd in me wants to build my own Hackintosh. But I know I can't waste the time with an unpredictable OS when there is no large ROI. Especially when there is a predictable OS is available...albeit at a premium.

Use the best tool for the job. ORM's might do it 80% of the time. The other 20%, most of the mature ORMs provide a way to execute your own sql.

I find the conclusion of the article that focus on sleep is a short lived fad is wrong. People have been trying to hack sleep for a long time, unsuccessfully. I hope one day we can, but I doubt it. At best you can trick your body into reach

Yes. I mean instead of asking me to do work for free. Why not I provide a small paid sample of my work. A risk both of us can take and live with. If you don't like the work, we can part ways knowing we are not the right fit.

I'm tired of companies asking me to code at their interviews. I have 10 years experience with references. I have code that I've built, deployed to production still running today. I have cultivated my own clients, gathered require

I love flask. web.py used to be my "go-to". But as its development has not been as active, I moved over to Flask for the community. When I know I need an admin and lots of built in items out of the box, I choose Django. But a quic

Love the project. Congratulations on shipping. An itch/problem I've been looking to solve or be solved. I'd love to be able to host it myself as well. Hope you opensource it. If anything for me to geek on with other features.

Great tool. I had a similar idea a while back to build a frontend webapp to store my receipts on S3 or Backblaze. It works like any receipt app, except the webapp is just a UI for S3/Backblaze. As opposed to dropbox or google drive, yo

The question before cutting each cost: Will this help my staff be more productive and happy? The assumption being a happy and productive staff creates better products. Panda? Maybe not. Free soda? Keeps our engineers from being thirsty! Yes

I don't care to own the car. From my point of view, it's a service I want access to, to get me from point A to point B. Tesla makes that process enjoyable. Because Tesla leveraged software, like an app, I want Tesla to handle th

I recommend taking an analog approach. Use paper and pencil to teach them the concepts. Use the computer as a way to demonstrate those concepts. Old ipads without internet access will not provide the playground to create a wordpress site. I

What prisoners get paid might seem slow. In the documentary Angola, the warden makes the case for paying prisoners so little. It costs x dollars/year to feed and take care of a prisoner. A working prisoner helps provide part of that in

Satya wants to woo windows developers by letting them write one code base that runs on multiple platforms. Ballmers prefers Windows phones that run Android Apps. I wonder which is a better strategy.

It's pretty neat to see Walt's big dreams. In implementation, I'm sure there'd be lot of little issues. For example, if everyone should have a job, where will the retired people go as they retire? What about injured peop
