In Germany almost every shop is closed on Sundays, with a similar idea behind it. Only the most necessary jobs are done (firefighters and hospital workers) and there is free time for everyone to relax. Now just to tone down the electricity

You'd think so, but a little googling shows me that an optimistic estimate is that 1-2% of US Americans that go hungry once in a while because they cannot afford food. Some sources, such as those cited by wikipedia [0], put the number

I like that manual transmission cars can actually be started without any battery power (by getting them up to speed by pushing or downhill). I need that option far more often than I would like in my life.

German traffic law also says you're right (StVO §7(4)). Does the US not have a law for that?

Just a FYI, literally every meter you get away from the street helps immensely with your exposure, from what we see in the data. Heavy traffic and stop-and-go at traffic lights are the worst (no surprise), avoid those if possible.

Since 2001 (at least) the law enforcement is supposed to have access to library records. The legal basis keeps changing, though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_Act

This article could be considerably longer, I agree. As such, it is merely an interesting introduction.

The satellite control rooms do indeed not have natural light. But all the people working there have another office with natural light they can use when their presence is not required in the control room (which is most of the time).

It depends on where you are, I'd say. If you live in a water-rich area, water itself should be fine to use. The question is how much energy goes into heating and cleaning it afterwards though. If you live in a water-poor area, it'

You can also check whether your area has carsharing. I have access to lots of standard cars of different sizes (some hybrids too), a convertible, an upper-standard BMW and a couple of vans all within walking distance.

The local US army bases in Germany actually chlorinate their perfectly fine tap water. What a waste! But it is probably the perception of unchlorinated water as not safe, and you will probably have a similar problem in the US itself if you

Overbuilding renewable capacity can significantly reduce the needed storage capacity, so the issue will probably get more pronounced rather than better with time.

I have the impression that basic German is quite technical. You can be poetic, even very poetic, but it is not easy. You can, however, easily describe the relation of one thing to another in detail. English has about 3 times the vocabulary
