Lawyers are notorious for not understanding the underlying things like this. Could be the crack in their armor that they didn't see. It just takes a $5 per customer class action suit to get their attention.

Aren't they stealing electricity from these users? It sounds like nothing but one of the ways laws developed around FAX machine spam was judges said you were costing the end person real money in sheets of paper. Certainly running the

Isn't this just RADAR applied at higher resolutions and indoors? I'm sure they've done some really interesting stuff if you dig deep but this doesn't seem like "Wireless" as much as it's transmitting and

I used to live in Los Angeles (talk about Carmageddon) and I moved to New York 4 years ago. Since then I've sold my car and use subways, trains and my legs to get me to almost everywhere I need and once in a while I use a taxi or car

Someone please add [2008] to the title. I was excited when I saw this and thought maybe Eric was updating it. In general of course this is a great book to read, I have a hard copy (gasp) on my shelf and when it came out I had been working

Exactly, but my partner wasn't the most patient person and in all fairness it was typical to 3,000 or more connections active to the database. With that many queries outstanding and the dead locks it was always a bit hairy trying to f

No offense taken, the reason he went this path is the web sites involved seemed to be non-responsive. The core issue was actually a deadlock but he wasn't trained in detecting that and in the past just restarting the db "fixed it&

This was a core cluster db for about 150 web sites that had high profiles and user traffic. It was a long time ago and the client didn't want to pay for 20 more boxes to do something more durable. These things are always a balance be

In the postmortem it seemed that by issuing the shutdown but not waiting for it to complete the database ended up in a strange state that we could never fully recover from. I guess the moral here is tread lightly and take the time to be inf

That's the point I don't want aliasing. It softens things too much. I tried it in iTerm2 without anti-alias on and it was horrific.

This was years ago and trust me it was corrupt. I think there may have been some issues with InnoDB in those days that made it a bit fragile in that situation.

I find I prefer fonts that I don't have to anti-alias. It seems all of these look quite horrific in iTerm2 unless you turn on anti-alias which then makes them feel to soft and fuzzy to me.
