I have a low-key solution. I check in files named by the hostname. For example `.bashrc.[hostname]`. Then I have a quick conditional in all my .bashrc files that checks for a hostname-specific file. This way, I commit them all, but only the

Not to pick on you particularly (this is just where I got to in the comments) but who _would_ you recommend instead for others trying to avoid this? Particularly for the UK, since a lot of the time the HN crowd is US-centric :)
