I essentially pay a bunch of money to garmin so i can text people while camping and offroading and send tiny amounts of data to update my position on a map. I got a iPhone 14 for a backup satellite sos method. In Canada there are 100s of km

I’m not so sure, he made a choice purely on “will it make money now” not “well let’s take a chance and see if this pays of big and if not we’ll loose a little money” It’s not like they couldn’t afford it and taking chances is important

Maybe focus on area that will have a bigger impact then yet again, foisting the responsibility onto the consumer. Subsidize railroads and public transit, build out commuter rail, reduce air travel, electrify the railroads, move more freight

100km is a short distance, i driver further then that for a day of snowboarding at the local big mountain (130km each way) - I’ve driven 2x that fora day hike And road trip? Between 500-1000 a day on travel days. North America is big.

It can add up quick, and there is all sorts of headaches around it and it’s super expensive if you get something that your allowed to take offroad. Imho renting via a car share is great for the occasional city truck need but for recreation

Call it what you want you still need an always available always there source of power to ensure demand is met. In the PNW hydro fills this role, elsewhere you will need something else and only nuclear really can fulfil that need
