The NativeScript site says that I can use their cross-platform wrappers like Button, which delegates to UIButton on iOS and android.whatever.Button on Android. So far, so good. But suppose I now want to invoke some method on Button that exi

I agree with the other comments as well, that treating F# as a second-class citizen is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As someone who was telling myself, "One day, I should learn F#", this thread makes me pause. Throw all your weight

It seems dangerous to commit to spending so much money for so long into the future, with a particular vendor. Who knows whether Google Cloud will be best for your needs four years from now? Price, performance, reliability, support, whether

I don't see the problem — look at the right-hand side of the expression to find out the type. Swift does it very well. It helps, not hurts, readability.

Being able to run dynamic languages on the VM isn't a substitute for the occasional situations in which dynamic typing in Java would help, say when working with JSON.

How is it harmful to say: var foo = new Foo(); as opposed to: Foo foo = new Foo(); ? As for "killing the static type safety we cherish so much", that's a one-sided view. There are situations when dynamic typing works better,

As someone who has to live with a 4mpbs connection, if VP9 produces better quality video, I'd want Apple to use it. I use an iMac, so battery life is not a concern. Even otherwise, I'd take video quality over battery life.

When will I be able to build Android apps on this? I'm planning on building one, and it would be great if I could use this laptop to do so. That would immediately make it more powerful than the 13-inch iPad, in that I can get my real w

This is an insightful comment. Thanks. I wonder how things would change if a second core was sitting idle anyway, like in a mobile app that does everything on the main thread. Would it then make sense to utilise the second core for greater

I've seen it repeated many times that GC has higher latency, but is there a benchmark? Imagine writing a Mac app, once with refcounting, and once with GC, and seeing which one has the longer pause time. I can think of cases where GC ha

If the tax is more than the sale price, clearly the tax system. Tax should be limited to a fraction of the sale price, say no more than a third. That seems like a common-sense reform to do.
