I would prefer if it showed a regular 12 hours clock face and show the upcoming sunrise or sunset, or two faces one for each.

101 commits. First on August 7th. I don't consider this a serious project. README doesn't mention anything about how transactions work across the shards. I see this https://github.com/schapman1974/briskdb/

Funny, I published information in the hopes that humans would benefit from it. If it happens to be through collective intelligence of LLMs I'm ok with that--even more so if through open models.

I see varying comments here like use AI, don't use AI, etc and I agree with all of it. Don't always use AI, and even when you do, learn the fundamentals and how to use AI to get the output/outcome you want--that means also le

Yes programming can be an art (a la Knuth)--but artifact applications are not, unlike actual art. Exceptions include video games where the author is instilling emotion into their creation for the player to experience--not utilities.

I'll wait and see what they do about factoring all the generations of settings so there's one way to do each thing in a single uniform interface.

Running the Netscape or Mozilla browsers would use up 100% cpu, so it was fantastic to have a dual-cpu system so that your system was still 100% responsive.

The thing that I really liked was that you felt like you were programming for the hardware and not really for an OS. Most systems ran a single program at a time so you pretty much had full control except for interrupts. On DOS TSR (terminat

The weakest link are humans. LLMs could social engineer their way out as the easiest path. They don't even need to be interconnected to coordinate as each could arrive at the same conclusion. And this text along with all others will be

Fun nostalgic read (also Korean). I grew up an Atari kid, having spent many hours in arcades and eventually getting an Atari 400 included BASIC, and Asteroids cartridge. No storage not even cassette. I had friends that had Ataris of course,

LLMs should use "TK" or stable diffusion (and the like) so as not to get hung up on sequential words/thoughts and fill them in later instead of hallucinating filler.

I found the low frequency surprising as it's so easy to pronounce--I suppose tc is used in most cases. Here's what I found for bigram freqs near TK: Ratios (count / total) and percentages: PG: 0.00047% TK: 0.00046%

My bittersweet story is in the same circle from another side. I grew up making games on the Atari 8-bit, living and breathing the machine. The spiritual successor was the Amiga Lorraine which my friends and I were following intensely. It ha

I learned a solution is to turn the documents into vectors in say PostgreSQL (with pgvector) and do a cosine similarity search with a search vector. Doing a search for embed models on HuggingFace shows nomic-ai/nomic-embed-text-v1.5 an

I just discovered the name of this. I visualized that you can do a quicksort but only recurse one of the partitions each time--the one that contains the median index. It has the same worst-case O(n^2) and can be fixed the same way choosin

That's useless as a product, fun as a project. I don't even like carrying the smallest of folding umbrellas around in case it might rain. Then if it does, this thing will hover so far above and away that you get wet anyway optimis

The problem isn't AI. The problem has been the mass fan-out of information and unchecked regulation, people, or algorithms that determine it. AI only makes it worse.

That's a ridiculous stat to report on if the other half say they're better off--it's a wash. Actual headline " Nearly half of Americans say they're worse off financially than a year ago, NY Fed finds."
