My reason is that I send mail from lots of different places like my iPhone, Apple Mail on the desktop, Thunderbird on a Windows box, and the GMail web client. So synchronizing all of those with the right keys and signing software would be e

$129 is actually very reasonable for a font. I've seen individual fonts several times that and you could only use them in print.

4 has been released for a bit, I haven't run into any real bugs in quite some time. 5 is just in Early Access, it'll be there for many months to come. Usually when they start an EAP it's pretty beta still.

I have to say I love using this IDE, I'm doing a lot of PHP now and it's the closest to Visual Studio that I can get.

That's true, I remember there being lots of prediction and compensation in QuakeWorld especially. I haven't played the OnLive stuff so I'm not sure what it's like, but with a decent connection I'm guessing it's something that your brain jus

There has to be latency issues, but as anyone that used to play Quake over dial-up can tell you: you get used to it.

What I'm curious about is how Congress can appear so technologically clueless about big bills (like network neutrality, etc) but then even know what BigTable is .

This is exactly right. The party line was "it's the addons" forever, anytime you brought up Firefox taking up 900MB of RAM after being open for 3 days. Even with no addons. I was so glad to switch to Chrome when it came out because of that.

Uh, Ruby can't do most of that out of the box either. Lots of those things you mention you need gems for. And really? Can't do CSV import? What does that even mean? I mean, it's a programming language. There are packages you can get that wi

I haven't seen that around me. My only issue is that a PWS that was near my house went offline, so the "nearest" to me is a buoy in Lake Michigan which in the evening is about 10-15 degrees cooler than everywhere else.

They do have a huge network of personal weather stations that the Weather Channel doesn't have. It's mentioned in the blog post that the Weather Channel was going to start incorporating that data on weather.com.

Well that's the thing... most of the PHP popularity is for the sites that get installed on Dreamhost etc. I've deployed C# apps; I did .NET exclusively for about 8 years. It's great! But telling Joe's Washer Warehouse that they have to pay

The problem is pretty much what the article he discusses mentions: I can copy up a PHP file to any old random web host, and it will Just Work. I would love to be able to not write PHP. But the language that replaces it has to be that easy t

I don't think that's a fair comparison though. Metro as a design language is very new. Compare iOS 5 with iOS 1. Or Android 4 with the pre-iPhone version. Or Mac OS X Lion with that pinstriped abomination that OS X used to be. I think Metro

I totally agree about the design language. I work on a Mac most of the day and love my iPhone, but damn does Metro look nice. And it's great seeing that come across with their other products as well.

Yeah this is exactly the thing. It's not like 1.9 or 1.8 or even 1.4 will stop working in the future when the new versions are released. I duplicated a project for a client today that needed a one-page form and a two-page admin section, and

Facebook does sort of the same thing: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/facebook/facebook-passwords-are-no... Yes, it's possibly less secure. But for both Facebook and all of the Blizzard games there are other options if you are concerned.

That's a great idea, but that's not currently how it works. All of the high-res website image stuff that I've seen all uses client-side JavaScript to fetch the 2x images.

You'd be right, but it wasn't "similar" design. They weren't sued because it was a black rectangle. This is closer to flipping the Pepsi logo upside-down and selling cola, then bitching about how unfair the patent and trademark system is.
