Wow! Great work. If I had a request, it would be to support more exotic TLDs and other registrars--but it's amazingly useful as-is. The price comparison is killer; I had no idea I could register a .TV domain for 10 bucks. I'll definitely

Looks great (and I live in Austin, so recognizing some of the places was cool!) but I only have an Android phone. Would love to know if you make a version for it. Is the data for this app user-submitted, or do you pull from somewhere?

The problem of sharing passwords across domains is one of the things that prompted me to write the password-generating service Cryptasia [1]. In short, Cryptasia uses a Google Spreadsheet entirely owned & controlled by each user as a 3r

Sure; I'll elaborate. First, I am arguing against the unapologetic championing of arcane knowledge, not the tools. I agree that awk/sed/grep/etc are powerful, and knowing how and when to use them is highly useful. I take issue with the at

I completely agree. I use various flavors of Unix every day at work, and I can only identify half of the flags mentioned at the root comment. This reminds me of the whole "replace" debacle [1] a couple weeks back, where the power nerds jum

> It's not The Best Language(tm), but it really ties the room together. Haha, very well put. A lot of the time, I just want something that lets me tinker interactively with C/++ code (changing variables, calling methods, etc) to make s

Agreed. List functions stringifying everything in sight is really inefficient and error-prone, and definitely one of the things that I dislike about Tcl. For most purposes I've used it, the convenience of the language outweighs its problem

I actually wrote some code to find unbalanced braces in the codebase I was maintaining at work. One big downside of Tcl is that the parser gives you practically no help with syntax errors--never a line number, and only sometimes does it gi

The author missed one of the other huge advantages of Tcl: it is extremely easy to add Tcl to a C++ project as a scripting language. It took me about half an hour, and I had never done it before. Once added, it makes interactive debuggin

I'd also be interested in knowing more about GCM. Hit me up at karl.gluck@gmail.com if you get a chance to write something up! Thanks for a view into a cool project, too.

Ah, I checked when it was first posted but it seems to be better now. It was probably the site itself and not the screenshot functionality that was the problem. As suggested in another reply, linking via iframe would still be a nice option

Great idea! Unfortunately, it looks like you're already getting spammed. I just reviewed Google.com and what I think would have been nsfw site had I let it load. Also, it takes too long to generate the screenshot. I waited a few minutes b

Wow, that's an impressive first project, congratulations on finishing it! I definitely agree that the developer community for a language makes a big difference in how easy it is to use. We are really into StarCraft II, so she's thinking of

Thanks for the tip! Would you mind posting a screenshot of Pong? I know that I loved being able to use graphics when I started, which is why I stuck to QBASIC as long as I did. Do they give you a library to use for drawing primitives (ci

I am in a similar situation to the author: I am an experienced programmer, and I am tutoring my wife, who left her job so she could devote all her time to learning to code. She's gone through all of the HTML, CSS, and JS CodeAcademy cours

I'm curious; what was the first project you built on your own? It's been so long since I started programming that I can't really remember mine. My wife is learning now and I sometimes worry that my gauge of what are good beginner projects

Very cool! I can definitely see this being useful. Out of curiosity, what encouraged you to choose Lua instead of JavaScript or another server-side language?

I completely agree. It's ridiculous...but that's Microsoft. And I'm not just bashing them here. It seems to be something about how they implement passwords. When I was doing research for Cryptasia, I found that Hotmail/Live was by far t

Hey, that's a lot like what I built--and from the comments so far, the gripes about having to trust that the files are not modified would also apply to Cryptasia ( http://www.cryptasia.com ). Having to trust that the site won't be hacked is

Hi everyone! I've read HN for a while and am often inspired by the projects I see here, but this is my first time to submit something and get feedback, so it's pretty exciting. :) My fiancee and I were inspired to create a secure password

This is a great idea! I would agree with brixon that there is no need for a search box, yet, but I've been looking for something exactly like this. I'm sure you'll get the kinks worked out. Thanks!
