How would you rate the rest of the items in this experiment? Could you rank them based on "pleasure to work with", speed, stability, suitability for large projects, etc?

This reply rings true, but also had me thinking. If rereading those books when you're old enough makes you appreciate them, are they ideal for high school? Do they teach you what's good writing if you can't recognize it yet?

I really wish I could downvote it, but then I again I would prefer people see it, get appalled and decide that BNPL is even worse than they previously thought. Is there a "begrudgingly upvote" option?

I don't believe the regime in Russia (and potentially many other places) will allow your site to be "out of politics" in the classic western-democratic sense. If I understand correct, it either exists (and in unison with the

As far as I can tell, what you're missing is the massive ease-of-use and approachability, especially for non-technical users, of a web-based graphical "convert X to Y" interface vs. facing command line ffmpeg, which they prob

They might be referring just to the fact that it's difficult. I personally don't want to ignore them and I often don't. They're necessary and helpful in the real world, but that doesn't make it any easier.

Because you're buying a plane and the phone is an analogy. Separately, both iPhone and Android have essentially their full functionality available without *paying* for a subscription.

This is about 2^n, not n^2. 2^0 is 1, which does not fit "all digits are even".

We're a small team (15 engineers) running a popular local service in Eastern Europe. We'll be checking that out. I don't get the pricing of PagerDuty and OpsGenie. It seems too expensive for us. We're only a few people o

> test stolen credit card numbers The stakes don't matter if you're testing credit card number. Just that the service tells you if it works or not. And low amounts are good, since you're not wasting the card's limit.

Overall system complexity might be higher (due to more electronics), but this type of complexity tends to have a more favorable profile for economies of scale. One, generally, writes software once, but has to route hydraulics, reservoirs an

Before learning about this, I watched an episode of Octonauts (a children's animated series) with my 2-year-old that more or less had this exact story. I was stunned to learn it's basically true!

Oh, agree. The throne has a new king every day. Sometimes a past king, sometimes a brand new one. The temporary nature of it was implied.

OpenAI invested in non-open foundation models and DeepSeek came and (approximately) dethroned them. I don't agree with the conclusion of the article, but the statement "open-sourcing a model lets another company dethrone you"

For personal usage, does it matter though? In most places residential electricity is cheap compared to everything else. In a DC context I feel it matters a lot more compared to the capex.

Putting the brakes on if the car is stopped wouldn't help solve the whole issue (move the calipers - yes, but the wear surfaces remain essentially untouched).

I checked the report and it indeed quotes a 12-13 year old class for the Model 3, despite the car not existing that long ago. I don't know how. It's this figure: https://cdn-kbpln.nitrocdn.com/vfTHZFrdylLFvVWvxVDze

"Army of digital slaves" doesn't really sound that bad when I think about it. As long as it's your army and not your adversary's army... In what ways do you think "an army of digital slaves" is bad?

Doesn't sound that much. When I was playing with datasets, for simple tasks I only took around 3 seconds to classify an image. That's 1200/hour or on the order of 40 hours of work. That can't cost much when outsourced.

Kind of, but not 100%. At least not in the case where you get a machine with non-ECC RAM and later need something more workstation-class with ECC RAM for whatever reason (scientific, research and whatnot). But in general it speaks to the an
