Go ahead and do so, please. You keep saying that things could be better but show no counterexample. Lead the change or stop whining. Nobody is going to do the job for you if they're satisfied by their current tools, especially if they

What? If you do 'a: 'static, then you just said 'a is at least as long as 'static. When you borrow the String, you just created a lifetime that is not as long as 'static. Variables are dropped (and hence unborrowed)

What confuses me is... why do you think the meaning is different? There is no meaning overload. It's a single meaning. T: 'static would happily typecheck with &'a str if 'a: 'static. T: 'static typechecks:

I think he means owned values (notice he didn't say "other references") But actually... owned values are bound by 'static!

> 'static is not the "lifetime of the entire application" when it is used in the context of T: 'static. Yes it is. T: 'static means T can live up to the end of the "lifetime of the entire application"

Sorry, I probably edited my comment while you were replying and added a couple links. Check misconception 2 here, I think it addresses your point. https://github.com/pretzelhammer/rust-blog/blob/master/po

Types are not generated at runtime, lifetimes are types (although they cannot be constructed). T<'a> and T<'b> are different types altogether (although, being generic, they can resolve to the same type if 'a ==

Ohhh you brought so many memories. Fravia and +ORC marked my teenage reverse-engineering years. Not a boomer myself (I'm just a poor millennial) but I was lucky enough to enjoy the early days of the internet. May he rest in peace.

Boot is probably IO and not CPU bound, hence why NVMes take the boot times down to <10s.

I'd say it's not only a tautology, it's plain false. Cheap optimizations that are known to work (compiling in release mode, enabling HTTP cache in your web server, using a fast sorting algorithm on large arrays...) are good e

Same here. I absolutely hate 3D coordinate systems, more specifically handedness and how easy it is to have correct results but wrong math due to two wrongs canceling each other.

I had that error for years, but it evolved. Nowadays Firefox (desktop and mobile) just refuses to load anything due to a "protocol violation error" unless I hard-refresh with CTRL-F5. I gave up trying to fix it.

"Calla" is probably not an issue, but it's impossible for me to read it otherwise as a Spanish speaker. Not offensive or anything, just funny that a conference app tells me to shut up!

Does Rust monomorphize const generics too? E.g. if I use 255 arrays with length 1-255.

Funnily enough, "calla" means "shut up" in Spanish. Can't wait to try this with my co-workers. One of the big barriers for remote casual conversation is the spatiality, since all video conference systems are focused
