Kinda relevant as the article won’t really help - what would you use for HA MySQL in a non-Kubernetes setting? Getting automated failovers, deployment of new nodes, and ~50k databases?

My impression is that the JS guru crowd is made of cool kids and very sensitive to what’s in fashion this week - and that’s definitely Rust. Here on HN there is plenty of announces of new things “like X but in Rust” - even when X would be f

I would frankly love if EU bodies were to plunge 10 K into the Realtime ad tracking industry as explained here https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42909921 , buy a lot of data of European citizens so that they have proof o

That’s an optimization, and does not mean that the general rule is not valid. If that happens to be a bottleneck and you can do better, you should definitely do it in code locally. But these are two ifs that need to evaluate to true

While this is no excuse for sending sloppy queries to the database server, my rule of thumb with databases - as I was told by my elders - is ”if it can be reasonably done in the database, it should be done by the database”. Data base engi

The compiler should know it for you, so you cannot get it wrong no matter what. The REPL here is a band-aid not a solution. I mean, I love Clojure, and used it for personal and work projects for 10+ years, some of which have hundreds of sta

I woul advise that you get a lawyer for each and every jurisdiction you plan to offer your service in. It’s not that the EU is so happy with the collection of medical data.. and I guess similar but slightly different rules apply everywhere.

I think it’s pretty cool, but with Latin a simple word by word translation will quickly become unmanageable because you need to re-order and break up sentences to make them understandable in other languages. If you take Cicero for example,

I wonder why people love to create languages to be embed in applications when there are plenty of languages that are already useful and well known. So in the end, you have to fight the half-assed small language that was created and have to

I don’t want to be a party pooper, but from my very cursory look at the page, I don’t think this will go much farther than a very small community. I feel like you’re adding a lot of complexity compared to normal backhand/frontend/

See https://hexdocs.pm/ - search for anything and click on the links. Documentation facilities in Elixir are extremely powerful, as you can use Elixir to generate the documentation itself! See e.g. the way UML diagrams are

I’m not sure about what the problem here is. If the target user cannot be bothered to learn about “the shell” why should they care about the Python vendor? And the procedure shown is not easy peasy for a newbie.

Because (+ 1 2 3) makes 6. This said, doing any kind of maths in clj, especially division and comparisons, is a PITA - I’d go as far as to say that’s the worst part of the language. Otoh, (< 3 x 4 y) is pretty cool.
