It is the exact same size as buttons on the iPhone if you are rendering the iPad 2 design on the iPhone as well, but in that case the button on the iPhone would be less than 40 points wide and also too small by Apple's guidelines. I am sa

Re-read my comment. If someone has an iPad 2 specific design which uses buttons which are 40 points wide on an iPad 2, those buttons will be less than 40 points wide when that design is inevitably served to an iPad Mini user. If iPad Mini

One user posted a link to this blog post which describes a seemingly quick and easy Javascript detection method: http://konstruktors.com/blog/web-design/4396-detect-ipad-min... I can't confirm it for myself, but if what the blog post says

Some sites have device-specific designs, and so they present different designs for the iPad 2 and iPhone. Your comment would be applicable if the iPad Mini were indistinguishable from the iPhone and were served designs meant for the iPhon

If you think CoffeeScript is solely for "young teenagers who have nothing better to do," your arrogance is obviously clouding your vision.

I believe he meant that the machine was usually used as a gateway to his home network, but he repurposed it for the competition.

I wouldn't call it spam, but it is worth noting that this is at least the third "how to watch the Olympics" article I've seen on HN in the past day which contains a referral link to some VPS provider.

"But a calculator should work like a calculator." Yes, and no physical calculator I have ever seen would give 500.01 for "500 + 1%".

Thank you for the preview of the app given before connecting with Facebook! I wish more applications which require connection to another service did this.

"What prevents the same enumerating attack against the sign up form. Are you going to give them a generic message that the username is invalid when it in fact has been taken?" There are, more frequently, CAPTCHAs on registration forms.

Nice try with the jab at Apple—MacBook Pros have a small green light to indicate whether the camera is in use or not.

This looks like a stripped down version of Initializr ( http://www.initializr.com ). I would look into how Initializr loads Javascript, and jQuery specifically (it tries loading the Google-hosted version first, etc.).

Here's a block of code that will cause most versions of the Java compiler to hang that doesn't use loops or templates : class compilehang { public static void main(String[] args) { double d = 2.2250738585072012e-308; Sy

While the effects caused by each bug might be on a similar level, I would argue that the fact that this particular bug was never released in a patch (I don't think I've ever seen anyone using Ruby trunk outside of those hacking the Ruby int

Personally, I can't think of a situation which calls for one of these potentially ambiguous sliders over, say, a checkbox. The imitation that the author is critiquing is poorly designed in my eyes, but even the iOS original is a bit ambiguo

37signals's suite of products ( http://37signals.com ) is pretty good for what you need. Basecamp can handle the progress/deadlines and questions, and Backpack's a pretty good solution for sharing documents and such internally.
