Just because industry moves to Asia (not purely european phenomenon), it obviously doesn't mean EU serves no other function. Or that moving industry is EU's goal per se. It's a bit more complicated and I'm sure you'

Oh, I'm well aware how Europe is and has been dependent on Russian fossil fuels. It's not simple to just end it quickly, but the progress is ongoing. I meant mostly everything else in your comment.

On a desktop, I nowadays actually somewhat prioritize flatpaks. I can get recent versions, sandboxing and the configs and data are always in standard locations with predictable naming. They can be installed for user in home dir without root

I think the GP was talking about usefulness of moderation in HN, Reddit, etc. in general. And parent was implying that filtering should exist only client-side (so no moderation by the platform), which I thought was unrealistic for some user

And you just end up with poorly integrated moderation with extra steps when community starts cooperating to make it more efficient (e.g. maintaining filter lists). Or there's no effective moderation so people that want more curated con

That's basically me. While Steam can always be improved (and has been), it has worked well and to me looks better than the alternatives. Additionally, I trust Valve and value it's products. So I don't mind paying more and it&

Yes, I have also been thinking how a similar reward system would work without tipping. Just use a bonus system based on customer feedback. And the flow could be very similar to how it is with tipping.

I don't remember the specifics well, but under GDPR they'd be required to give breach notification to customers, maybe write a report and get audited and possibly get fined depending on the situation. Customers could demand compen

If you have sufficient shutter speed (also depends if you have image stabilization), then I think the issue is probably focus. I also have a fuji camera. In manual mode, you can have focus indicator showing e.g. red dots in the in-focus are

Those sound like the 2 extremes, though. You don't have to take a lot of gear or tune a lot of settings manually with dedicated camera if you don't want to, but it's an option if you want to have more control or go for the ul

You're saying that a big number of shitcoins with a tiny market cap is somehow representative. Many coins, especially the big ones, have actual proper main points. Maybe this is an example of getting side-tracked.

Not my experience, though, but our needs may differ. I've been using Protonmail for years with no issues. I used gmail previously and I prefer Protonmail. I also use the Calendar and occasionally Drive.

I always find this kind of reasoning shallow or somewhat circular. Plenty of tech in history has been too much ahead of their time, bogged down by missing related tech, a larger movement or otherwise didn't just make it big until later

I don't use YT much, but if I did and paid for premium, I'd assume they'd still track me, monetize the data and utilize dark patterns and enshittified UX. What I mean is that, IMO, ads by themselves are only a small part of t

Thanks! I've owned one windows phone (I liked the UI) and multiple android phones and don't remember anything like that. Maybe it was a problem on some earlier (or cheaper) phones since I waited a bit before buying a smartphone.
