A similar but different idea is the TOAST projection. However here it starts with an octahedron instead of a cube. The benefit is the texture can all be stored on a square and is argued has a more uniform sampling that equirectangular proje

They don't advertise it as a general programming language. The end of the video they specifically state it only works with optimizing algorithms that deal with images. General stuff like trees, they have no application towards.

You're comparing the death of 3 astronauts to a fire in a for profit company's product? Your emotional scale needs calibration.

I know the poster before you got a lot of down votes. But I thank you both for asking and answering a serious question. It's hard to comprehend that situation until you are stuck in the middle of it.

Why is there a Railroad Retirement Board in the US budget? Shouldn't that somehow be combined with Social Security?

This appears to be the original image from MSSS (Malin Space Science Systems, the company who built and operates the mastcam for MSL). I don't believe it is a lizard. But sometimes rocks can resemble life just like clouds look like faces so

That tracking is amazing! Is there an open variant so that I can look under the hood? Or could anyone cite what their implementation is based off?

You have it slightly wrong. You make it sound like there are only 9 focus points. When in fact it can post process focus at any point. It just needs to bundle the pixels (rays) that coincide with a synthetic lens that is focused at that poi

Not quite what you're looking for, but there is Spice. http://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/naif/toolkit.html It is used for general astrometry (coordinate frame transfer and time references). It also can help you point your camera in the right spot

A quick follow up, from those same sites you can work out that NASA costs Americans about $55/yr per person today. Not bad, maybe others would like to buy a video game instead. I however enjoy the pretty pictures from around the solar syste

Can you provide a link for that dollar amount? At its peak in 1966, NASA was 4.4% of the federal budget. That's 5.9 billion dollars for that year. The population of the United States was 196 million at the time. This puts the cost of NASA a

There are also government and commercial jobs for research engineers that don't require a PhD. You play as second fiddle but you still get time to work on improving algorithms or coming up with your own. Willow Garage has a job opening that
