> Self-awareness is just ability of algorithms to observe its own "subroutines". What does it mean to observe? If we design an algorithm that observes its internals according to your definition, is it going to be self-aware?

I recommend a book by Peter Watts called Blindsight. It explores the question whether consciousness is needed for intelligent behaviour.

As far as I know Dennett denies the existence of qualia which is something I can not understand however hard I try. I agree that in terms of intellectual capabilities the human brain is not magic. But consciousness kind of is.

But they surely don't use git for that, right? In scenarios like this a versioning system that does not track all history locally would be a better fit.

A way to test this hypothesis: elephants and certain whales have bigger brains than us. By the article's reasoning we should find mechanisms in these animals' brain which prevents neurons from "untethering".

It is 120K years AD. Humanity has suffered 53 nuclear holocausts (this was made possible by advanced recovery methods researched over time). Peace for 18000 years is being upheld by an artificial intelligence which governs a flying city, er

I've tried clicking on run and then refresh. I repeated this process 8-9 times and then the animation in the first example started to lag considerably.

Can't you use your own server to get the data you want from the Reddit API only once, and then serve this as many times as you want (since the server is yours)?

The complexity of the project does not make it absolutely vital (the animation could be done in plain jQuery with a little more hassle), but it was fun and I wanted to try it :)

For anyone curious, I built it using TypeScript, d3.js, mongoDB, and node.js. I'm planning to open source it after I've made some facelifts on the codebase :)

When I saw that sweylas's stuff has disappeared, I asked them in an email if it will be back again. I didn't get an answer so I implemented my own version: http://redditsnapshots.com/ (running since March 2012)

C# has closures but not when evented. What does this mean? How do closures behave any differently when a delegate is assigned as an event handler?
