I read so many reports of Yosemite being faster that I was beginning to think I was the only one who was disappointed. I have an older machine (2010 Mac Pro tower), but it's been upgraded to 16GB RAM and an SSD over the years. I experi

Sincere question: is the NSA on record for having responsibly disclosed any previous security holes? Is there some track record of them having actively help close security holes in software?

Because there's always something different that needs to be done for them once your project starts becoming non-trivial. You might need a different version of a gem (e.g. pure-java Nokogiri), or they're behind recent MRI features.

Transferring brain to a computer is just brain transplant. If you accept organ transplant you should hardly have any problem with this at all. Your "uploaded" brain probably won't have any problem with this, b

Super shady stuff. I never rely on any ISP provided DNS servers Doesn't that mean that you don't benefit from nearby CDNs? Perhaps worth the tradeoff anyway.

New hooks focus-in-hook, focus-out-hook. These are normal hooks run when an Emacs frame gains or loses input focus. Cool. I think the lack of such a hook is what was preventing an implementation of "save all buffers&

I'm still waiting for someone to coin a term for when you google around for a problem and end up at your OWN answer on SO from a year or so earlier. This happens more often than I'd like to admit. I'm incredibly thankful for

Look, Intellij is the Emacs of IDEs. If you've not used it you have no idea of its depth. I've written plugins [1] for it, so I'm not an idiot. I regularly use it for Java, Scala, Clojure and Ruby, so yeah, sometimes it'

I pay for every upgrade simply for the support. A few times a year I get stuck on something; mere minutes after filing a support ticket, I have a resolution. They've got this guy "Serge" who must be locked in a room somewhere

You should use "User.count", which will do something like "select count(*) from users". "Users.all.count" will needlessly read in all users into memory and then return a count. That might work OK for 1000 users
