That doesn't work for newer accounts linked to a Yahoo account. In fact it's a real pain getting your data out in xml format from such an account.

That looks pretty good, but it appears to have no concept of users. In which case when you start replicating with somebody you end up with the same editable list of bookmarks. That may be what you want, but I'd quite like to be able to sepa

There are a few decentralized social networks around. I was considering the use of status.net as a base since it's got a load of the right features in there already (tagging, groups, federation, etc); though it may be best to just start fr

Well how about an open and federated system - all alternative suggestions so far have been single sites owned by somebody else. If we could build a system which stores our data on our own server with the ability to connect to others then i

Exactly! The rule is for that commands of two letters in length (cp, ln, mv) the file on the end is the one that gets created. For commands of three letters in length (tar, zip) the file that gets created is the first one. And then there'

I want a registrar to sell domains, not be a platform for marketing other services to me. I want one registrar which will sell me any tld, many of the nice-looking registrars don't support .uk or .dk domains. I want there to be a well-doc

So the idea is to get people to install extra software on their computer which restricts their ability to do their jobs? Sure, that's going to become a big hit. The file they have for download is close enough to a standard PDF that the sta

I'm using Tumblr for my personal blog, have been for years, but am starting to become very unhappy with their stability problems. I'm using Wordpress (self hosted and Wordpress.com) for a number of other sites and I'm very happy with it. Th

I went with one who is also on the board of a local networking group for digital/creative industries. I figured I can't really go wrong with somebody like that and so far I seem justified, she's invited me to local events I didn't know abo

I quite often use http://pleac.sf.net when I'm stuck, there's some really good examples here - albeit incomplete in many languages. It was originally a Perl cookbook but has been translated into a number of different languages. It's jus

Cryptome and Wikileaks fell out a while back over a pretty big disagreement. You should take anything that either of them say about each other with a pinch of salt. That said, Cryptome do have a very good point here.

I was agreeing completely with this entire post up until you mentioned Aegir. Whilst I keep seeing lots of people who absolutely love Aegir, it's caused me so many headaches that it really isn't worth it when you're planning on hosting jus

That's really annoying because you can't copy/paste it which you'd ordinarily want to do at a site like this. I guess that's intentional to stop you using lots of bandwidth by scrapers though, and it was probably a nice toy project to play
