I agree, but the incentives are lopsided. The prospective hire has a huge incentive: they get the money. But the hiring manager doesn't have any such incentive: it's not their money they're spending. Even worse, they may in s

As a Brit, I agree with your comments. I've had to overcome a lot of my own culture to be an effective leader, and even then I don't always do a good job.

That's partially my point too: pronouncing something "as it's spelled" is meaningless in English - most of the time there's more than one "obvious" pronunciation. And the right one could be a less obvious

What about the comment you replied to involves "scaled agile"? I may have missed this. They are simply saying that any system involving multiple people will also involve people convincing other people to do things. Do you have a s

The fact that you have to explain this is somewhat concerning. Usually people say that people skills are as important for having lots of impact as technical skills, but the bar for people skills is really low sometimes I guess.

I don't think the title is confusing, if that were the desired meaning then it'd say "I made an SSH tunnel manager learn Go" i.e. no "to". I don't think "I made X to do Y" ever means "I made

Yeah, this is funny. It's like presenting someone with a thought experiment and them saying "yeah but that would never happen".

Usually, if a video is too slow I find it frustrating and I'm more likely to stop watching or increase the speed. It's not like I'm actually following along with a screwdriver and iPhone so I don't need to watch it at 1x

I think the only way to get a real picture here would be doing surveys and finding out quantitatively. I also don't watch anime and don't know anyone who does really.

Yes, I know. What I'm saying is that: It's possible to have a language that doesn't have a GIL, which you implement Python in, but that Python implementation then has a GIL. The point being that you can't say things like

This is pretty beside the point. The point is that X not having a GIL doesn't inherently mean Python on X also doesn't have a GIL.

Okay, but that doesn't change how the Internet works. Encouraging people to be ethical isn't actually a real way to prevent people copying photos you put up online.

It's not that we're "leaving out a detail" or "abstracting" it's that there genuinely isn't a global reference frame and the events genuinely cannot be globally ordered. You have it backwards. Events

Somehow I learnt about Riemannian manifolds and Killing vector fields in a geometry class that didn't mention physics at all. I am always entertained when some nonsense I learned actually has something to do with the real world.

The probability of picking a single number can't be used to determine the probability of picking a set. You can't build intuition this way. This is almost exactly the same thing as saying integrating x^3 from minus infinity to plu

That argument works for any number. The probability of picking any particular number is zero, there's nothing special about rationals from that perspective. This has no bearing on the measure of the set as a whole.
