Decent short explanation. If anyone would like an exhaustive explanation, I'd recommend comp.lang.javascript's FAQ[1]. It's overkill to if you just want a working definition, but is instrumental in understanding the underlyin

I believe this is actually promoting an anti-pattern, and will result in code that is hard to test and which isn't expressly modular. From the source[1]: * core.js creates the "myLib" object * module1.js & module2.js augm

Because it is a Google project, and other browser vendors (those mentioned in Eich's next sentence) don't want to include something from a competitor into their own browser. It'd be about like Ford proposing that GM and Dodge

I wasn't going to bring it up, but I'll definitely dogpile. While I generally prefer the SPA (ajax) style site, I don't mind the old-fashioned "each click renders a new page" so long as it's efficient, but navi

Ok, that does make more sense in the context of dealing with those unfamiliar with the problem space. And I agree that it's good to have something to bring to the table, as it can demonstrate the fitness of the proposed solution, or if

Compatibility and UX qualms aside, this is a really fun little project. It'd be fun to bake something like this into your app even, which I'm sure you've considered, but it'd make a nice little poweruser/admin tool,

Since when did the topic devolve into whether particular SWAT raids are appropriate? I'm not going to argue against that because I largely agree with you. You can put the pitchfork down now.

I think it's very presumptive to think that because someone is "just" growing marijuana, that they aren't dangerous. Yes, many times they are, but that's no guarantee. I do agree a lot about no-knock raids, though I

It's funny that the banner story this seems to be based on is "Cisco" out of Austin, TX. I don't have time to dig up all the relevant links at the minute (still at work), but I remember that there was a lot more to this

If you're being raided in the middle of the night, there's basically 1 of 2 scenarios: 1. You're a bad -- and presumably dangerous -- person. 2. There's been a clerical error and they never should have raided your house

Lots of ways! First and easiest would be to simply 'inspect popup' on the icon, and then navigate to the sources tab, though you may not get all of the code this way (perhaps if it was conditionally/dynamically loaded). Secon

Well, you can inspect the entirety of the plugin code yourself. While they could of course update it with something bad, there is nothing inherently hidden from you that I'm aware of.

I think Angular is just the latest in their web dev portofolio, driven by internal needs. They have Closure, which is basically their own jQuery + package/module/dependency loader & framework. Then there's Dart, which is

The irony is that not only is there a commenting system to complain about the docs, but that at the top of most of the pages is a prominent "Improve this doc" button, which when clicked, takes you directly to the file in Github. S

How is it going to scale, since it's using package-by-layer (as opposed to package-by-feature[1])? Most systems like that become highly annoying to work in with even a moderate amount of complexity. 1. http://www.javapractic

Interesting. After looking at the MXHR more, it appears as though it was adapted from Digg.com[1] (aka DUI.Stream[2]), and then later adapted by Facebook[3]. Yours sounds more elegant in that it can handle JSON naturally, but I wonder if th
